The Islanders are moving to Brooklyn, according to multiple reports.

The team is planning to make a "major announcement" Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, the team said on its website.
ABC Eyewitness News reported the Islanders are moving to Brooklyn. The report cited sources.
Those expected to attend the event are Islanders owner Charles Wang, Barclays Center majority owner and developer Bruce Ratner, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, Brooklyn borough president Marty Markowitz, Islanders general manager Garth Snow and Barclays Center and Brooklyn Nets chief executive Brett Yormark.
The Islanders' lease at Nassau Coliseum expires in 2015, and Wang has spent the past several years trying to get a new arena built to replace it, but the plan was voted down. The Islanders averaged 13,191 in attendance at the aging Coliseum last season, ranking next-to-last in the NHL.
The Islanders were supposed to play a preseason game at the Barclays Center against the Devils on Oct. 2, but that was canceled due to the NHL lockout.
The newly built Barclays Center is home to the Brooklyn Nets.
The Islanders have not formally announced the move, but noted in its announcement of the news conference that the Barclays Center is "located atop one of the largest transportation hubs in New York City" -- and is "accessible by 11 subway lines, the Long Island Rail Road, and 11 bus lines."

Good for them.

Nassau County really dropped the ball on this one. Good luck getting anyone to fill that dump.

Good for them.

Nassau County can go suck a bag of dicks.

And LOL at one of the comments; someone needs geography lessons -

"Now there's nothing on Long Island!" :

The Brooklyn Islanders?

They will need a name change.

Good for them. Nassau County screwed them every possible way over the last 25+ years.

Why would they need a name change? Forgetting about the fact that the Lakers play in LA, the Jazz play in Utah....are you aware that Brooklyn is part of the same island that Uniondale is?

this is fantastic news.

The only drawback is the new arena won't get as loud as the new arena. Not that the Isles have had much to cheer about, but those old low roof 18,000
seat arenas got really loud. Been to Canadiens game in the old barn and new Bell Centre, what a difference. The old place rocked.

Great move.... Nassau Colisseum is a dump - great acoustics and got loud when people showed up - but a dump. Hopefully more mass transit options and a better product on ice turns things around.

Really? Was Clinton president in 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2007?

There's the rub. It's not that people were staying away because the coliseum is a dump, it's because the on ice product sucks, and has for a decade. Wins puts people in the seats. Woody Johnson needs to learn this also.

LOL. Funny how peeps don't relize Brooklyn is part of LI. NY Islanders has always been a great name IMO and should leave it that way.

Well it's official. Starting in 2015 the NY Islanders will play in Brooklyn. No name change and logo will remain the same! Bettman said they were looking into adding another 500 seats to the already 14,500...
