Agree, I have the outside outlet for the first floor that will run off the 5,000 Watt generator, did not want to spend the extra $$$ on the one you have, but I am sure I may just do that if this is as bad as they are saying it could be.

holy **** - what are the odds?!

Ironically I actually have a question - so how many things can I plug into that sucker for let's say a 5000w generator?

Enough to run my fridge/tv/ and ps3?

During the big east coast blackout I did that...and my wife ran the vacuum. (It is important to have a clean environment for teh zombie looters)

No problemo.

I had my fridge and tv on during the blackout. But instead of the very important vacuum cleaner, I had on a large AC too.

Just went to Home Depot to get gas cans and the generators area was a plucked chicken, even the crappy 1000 watt ones gone... Wife would have banned me from Jets games if I did not get one since I got the hook up last spring a kept putting off getting a generator... Good thing is I can also use it for the tailgate if needed.

I have a different brand (Champion), but similar in size/made generator – 6500 watt.

A few things I’d advise –

Don’t use it in your house (obviously) or even in your garage.
Very dangerous and a lot of people get kill being stupid.

What I did last year was put it right outside my garage, shut the doors.
The garage overhang + a few wood planks I placed in angle over it were enough to keep it dry.
I think I might create a better/sturdier system of covering it for this storm though.

People tell you that you can run your whole house, etc.. with these things… me personally, I wouldn’t do it.

The more outlets/energy you feed, the more gas you will burn… we lost power for 3-4 days last year. Gas stations were closed down too…

I nearly ran out of gas and got lucky and finally found a gas station that was open… scary as my sole purpose for the generator is to keep my finished basement from flooding.

All my neighbors did end up flooding, so the generator was money well spent!
