People have been surprisingly upbeat about it n realize that things could have been a lot worse for the most part. I feel terrible for some of the people who own anything down in the Howard beach/rockaways area. No power for blocks and scumbags looting sh*t all over the place

I'm appreciate Shakin, truly. But no need I think. I have a metric ton of family in New York/L.I., all of them kids or grandkids of this Gran, and I'm sure it's just a power outage/dead cellphone combo at work. Last I heard, one aunt talked to them Monday night and that was the tale, power was out, cell batteries dying.

I'm worried, but I'm sure they'll be fine. I shouldn't have googled "West Babylon Sandy Pics".

Currently NY Downtown, Beth Israel, Bellevue, NYU, and Metropolitan Hospitals are all closed after their backup generators failed.
I work at Cornell, and so far we had 120 patients come from NYU, 200 from Bellevue, with many more to come as of the end of my shift yesterday at 730. We're 860 bed hospital, #1 in NYC, #6 in the country, so everyone goes to us first, and they hospital is always packed as it is.
I used to work in the Emergency Department, now in recovery/PACU, but I'm gonna be putting some overtime in the ED now that my flight to PR on Friday got cancelled.
Defintely bummed, but it's probably a good thing though as it's very difficult for people to get to the hospital, and I live nearby. 3 people to a car coming into Manhattan as of 6am, as I understand it.
Unfortunately this looks like it'll be a problem on a scale of weeks for us.
It's pretty crazy.
