God you're stupid. I bet you get all your "info" about Obama from chain letters. The FCC created the "Lifeline" program for income-eligible citzens in 1984. This applied to landlines, and now, since the technology is so cheap, to cell phones. Also, the program applies to more than just welfare recipients (Medicaid, etc). You have to be at or below the 135% of the poverty line to be eligible. So, since you like to say how your "job isn't affected either way" you're unfortunately INELIGIBLE so you can't get your "Obama-Phone." Oh, and top of that, its NOT FREE, only discounted, and those discounts are not entirely subsidized by the Federal government. But I'll let you get back to your "not giving a **** about anyone but yourself" day.

Almost makes no sense defining middle class. Depending where ya live and if single or family... $60k to $200k prolly covers lower middle to upper middle across the country.

My main point though is the numbers in that article I posted. 50% of tbis country fights for 1% of the wealth. While the top 10% hordes 74% of the wealth. Think about those numbers. Nuts! That's what decades of mostly Top-Down economics has given us. In the 50's I believe the numbers were more like the top 10% held 50% of the wealth.

We've let greed take over. The top spends and circulates what?.. maybe 4% of the wealth (4 times the amount half the country utilizes) to live like kings. Then gets low tax rates on investments. They horde the money, pass it on to their family and pay minimal amounts to the workers keeping business going. It's an endless process that keeps the divide growing.

More than half of this country either currently needs or is a missed pay check away from needing the "socialistic" safety nets that are really only designed to help a few temporarily.

If you think about it, those on top who complain about the 47% or freeloaders have only themselves to blame. The insane amouts of greed is causing this. Top-down is a possible solution but we've seen that it doesn't work with the levels of greed at the top.

The bottom 50% of this country should be working with at least 8 or 9% of the wealth in tbe country. NOT 1%!!! Then people could spend in the economy and keep off "social" programs. Leaving the safety net to do what it was designed to do... temporarily help those down n out.

This is not Socialism. It's how ya keep a stong country. The rich will still be beyond rich. We just have to stop allowing the top to game the system.

Im a small business owner in manufacturing. I dont need to be educated on how the economy is doing, Im in it everyday and I can tell you that it is NOT rebounding. I deal with major corp. such as coca cola, p & g, and so on. The manufacturing sector is dead right now. Companies are not spending money.
The US was fooled again.

Why would you think that African-American athletes wouldn't be proud and excited at the re-election of the first black president in America's history?

Hmmm If 90% of Whites voted for Romney because he's white that would be racism.. But if 90% of Blacks vote for Obama their just supporting their guy?? So what group are the racists?? If Romney is a flip flopper Obama is a down right liar..

It is socialism. You do realize that the top 1% in the country pay more than 50% of the total taxes? I'm middle class where I live, my income is over 250K. My business profits also run through me because Im a chapter s corp. The new health care and tax plan will greatly affect my income and family. Im not poor by any means, but this system is no better than the one it replaces. Obama wants to create an equal society yet he is not willing to be one of the equals.
This is not about what side of the politics you are on, this is about the future. Bring manufacturing back to the US, create jobs that matter.
This country would not be in the fiscal trouble that it is if people were more responsible, i.e credit card spending and living beyond their means.
If you honestly think these politicians care about you or the earth, God bless you.

Obama got the Black vote, the Latino vote, the Gay/Lesbian vote, the "I bailed you Ohio and Detroit guys out with taxpayers $$$" Union vote, and the Young People who know everything vote.

The other half of the country voted for Romney.

The country is headed in the right direction?

Stay Tuned

Yet they still pay lower tax rates than lower middle class people. With numbers like that it's not tough to see how the divide keeps growing.

Besides when 50% of the country works with 1% of the money, how much tax money can you expect to collect?

Question: Do the rich pay their fair share of taxes?

Answer: Yes, and then some. From the Times report:

The bottom 20 percent of American earners paid just three-tenths of a percent of the total federal tax burden, while the richest 20 percent paid 67.9 percent of taxes.

Question: Did the top 1 percent of income earners benefit disproportionately over the course of the recession?

Answer: Absolutely not. They took in only 11.5 percent of income nationwide, while paying 22.3 percent of taxes -nearly double the percentage they earned – in 2009.
