The Changing Face of the Supreme Court

So, in the same vein as "it's never too early to..." here is another major repurcussion of the election.

Word is, at least two Supreme Court Justices will retire in the next 4 years.

If that were to come to pass, how do you think that will effect the balance of the court, and further, what current law is most in danger of changing (overturned or getting a second shot at the court and being affirmed) if it were to come to pass?

I'll give an obvious example. Citizens United. If the court moves left, this ruling would very likely see the court again, and be struck down.

The court will be Obama's lasting legacy, and that's something I'm very concerned about.

I guess it depends on whom are retiring

If it one or both of the two are Scalia Thomas Alito Roberts or Kennedy...the Court probably moves leftward

If both are Ginsberg Breyer Sotomayor or Kagen the Court stays the same

Good point.

Another great reason why Puns should have out up better candidates that 999 guy, man dog sex guy, runaway bride lady, Vitalis wooden man and the other Vitalis wooden man.

But seriously. It could have a pretty major impact on things to come. But I don't think Citizens United getting struck down is terribly bad. Some donors could have saved themselves millions by not donating to some super Pacs out there.

Hoping Scalia and Thomas stay on board. We need some form of checks and balances.

Scalia would be wheeled into court on a gurney rather than step down during an Obama Administration. Unless he dies, he ain't goin' anywhere.

Thomas is not even 65, he's not going anywhere for a while. If Conservatives have to worry about anyone, its probably Kennedy - he's in his mid-70s and has no real idealogical conviction to ensure the Court goes in a certain direction once he's gone. But, he's hardly reliable anyway, although far better than what you'll get if Obama has the opportunity to replace him.

Ironic that it was the Bush-appointed Roberts that proved unreliable for conservatives.

You would think that at one point in time, Scalia would have said "Hey. I shouldn't eat that hoagie. Because I'm fat. And can't see my dick. And pant when I climb 5 steps. And have man boobs. And get rashes on my sides where my fat rolls roll up."

Found a great drummer avatar for you btw.

Not a Cookie Monster metal band, but still a cool drummer pic.

No way a conservative judge steps down knowing what will happen...
