Arrest made by Daytona Police Sunday in fake iPad sale case

Daytona Beach Police arrested an Opalocka man Sunday evening, alleging he sold a fake iPad to a woman last week at the Save-A-Lot parking lot on North Nova Road. Daytona Beach Police spokesperson Jimmie Flynt says 39-year old Torrence Canady was charged with Grand Theft. In the Charging Affidavit in the case, police say Canady was a passenger in a car they stopped Sunday during an investigation into fraudulent computer sales. Police say they were given permission to search the car, and found two fake iPads and two fake MacBook Pro computers during the search. Police also say Canady was charged with providing a False Name to Law Enforcement Officers and Violation of Probation after they discovered the initial name he gave them was false.

During interviews at Daytona Beach Police Headquarters, police say another officer noticed that Canady matched the description of a man wanted in the case of a fake computer sold to a woman last week at the Sav-A-Lot parking lot on North Nova Road. Police say the woman in that case was contacted and identified Canady from a photo lineup. Police say the woman also indicated that the fake computers found by officers Sunday “…were similar in both looks and wrappings…” to the one sold to her. Police say the items they found Sunday were “…duct taped pieces of glass and wood disguised as computers.”

When the thin, metallic frame glasses with fake lenses came into "fashion" about 15 years ago, we'd refer to anyone wearing them as "knowledge" since it seemed like they were simply trying to appear scholarly. These have a similar vibe, but goofier.

Also love the angle that she couldn't pass it up with "the holidays right around the corner".
