Is Woody the NFL's Worst Owner?

You're first reaction will be no but take these factors in consideration:

--PSL debacle bs

--Tebow

--Crazy Al's dead

--Snyder actually looks good forcing Skins' FO hand in trading for RG3

--Being too loyal to wrong people (Herm, Mangini, Schitty, Tanny)

I guess you can make an argument about the Bills owner but that franchise is in a horrible market and nobody good wants to go there unless you give them a $100 million contract. Jags owner is new and getting the team prepped for the inevitable move to LA.

Try Dallas.

Keeps hiring mediocre head coaches that he can control.

Run the entire draft despite 20 years of futility.

Although, if Jerry owned the Jets, we would be 3-13 in a kick a$$ stadium in Manhattan right now.

Bengals.

Won't hire scouts, is too cheap.

Miami.

Maybe they sort of have it right this year. But celebrity owners? Did you forget what a joke that place has been?

Bengals is the only one worse then woody, although the jerry jones argument does make sense.

Woody needs to hire a FOOTBALL OPERATIONS person, and step aside from having any role whatsoever in the running of this team.

Dallas has way more talent than the jets right now, not even close!
Did u see some of the plays Romo made yesterday?

I think of Dallas, Miami, Washington and Oakland.

Jerry Jones is a meddler....worse than Woody. Except, Jerry is at least football man. I still think he is near as bad as Woody but Woody is worse.

They BOTH only hire guys they can push around. Yet..Parcells was stubborn and did NOT want to bring in Romo. jerry and the record forced him too.

It could be worse folks.

Carolina - cheapskates
Jacksonville - cheapskates
Detroit - its still the Lions folks.
Cleveland - because, the Browns.
Chiefs - only other team that has a Super Bowl drought as long as us.
Washington - things are looking up with RG3 but even Shanahan has not helped translate into wins.

Name 1 impact player Dallas has brought in since Parcells left. Don't even say Dez, that guy is a moron who runs the wrong route half the time. Literally can not learn the playbook or how a route tree works.

The worst part about having Jerry, when you are sick of him, you can't say "Fire the GM!!!"

But we're still in the bottom class of NFL owners.
Chiefs are misleading. There are teams that have never won a Super Bowl. Detroit.... took 6 years to get Matt Millen out of there.

The Browns have entirely new ownership. For now, they are off the list. Same with Jacksonville.

Dallas - Jerry has run the franchise into the ditch despite all of its inherent advantages.

Oakland - Al Davis dies and they respond by getting snookered by the Bungles on Carson Palmer. Who gets snookered by the Bengals?

Bungles - Cheap and inept.

Eagles - gave Vick big bucks

Washington - Jerry Jones with worse results.

if woody wants to win football games he needs to hire a gm that knows football. right know hes got an accountant running this team and a head coach full of excuses. a real football guy would have shown rex the door by now.

Is he terrible?

Yes for sure he is.

But let's not get carried away. It's tough to say he's even bottom 5......there's that many terrible owners.

This is in no particular order:

1) Jerry Jones: Well it doesn't get worse than this. Never shuts up, is hard to look at, massive ego, won't hire a GM, and continually hires bad coaches. Not only the worst owner in the NFL, but may be the worst in sports. Think about it: You never have any hope. Ever. Your owner is the GM because he played Junior College football and thinks he is God. How bad is it?

Spent what, a billion bucks on a new stadium that is covered except for a hole in the middle, how dumb can you get?

2) The Ford family: Detroit Lions owner. Need I say anything else? OK, well then:

Scott Mitchell, Matt Millen, roster so awful the greatest Running Back of All-time quits in the middle of his prime to go to London (Barry Sanders), Joey Harrington, two amazing draft picks in a row: Mike Williams and Charles Rogers......it goes on and on and on.......At least they have a GM, though. And they are certainly better off than they were, but are they a true contender yet? Not really........So the misery continues.

3) Ralph Wilson/Shad Khan: At a certain point in time, you just have to give up the ghost and realize your town isn't a viable NFL location. When you have to pay an injury prone Defensive End as the highest defensive player in the league to have him come to your town, then you have issues. As for Jacksonville, see you in LA once Khan decides to stop laundering money through you. Jets have an advantage simply by being in a viable market.

4) Al Davis (RIP)-See Jerry Jones above. His son effectively knows nothing and that's how Dennis Allen ends up a head coach......nice move lol.

5) Randy Lerner-He may have recently sold the team, but again, what's to be hopeful about? They perennially blow. The only benefit they have is that Cleveland itself blows so they will go watch a crap team anyway.

6) Washington Redskins-Daniel Snyder is straight up nuts. You don't pull Joe Gibbs out of retirement then dump him like a piece of trash. You simply do not. This is amongst a myriad of a chain of disasters until they got RG3, who hopefully doesn't end up stuck playing for Skeletor and Snyder and wasting a great career Marino-style.

7) Stephen Ross-Is Jeff Ireland still GM? Alrighty then......

8) Dean Spanos-I'd probably rank him 1. How many times has this team's roster been absolutely incredible and tanked? He wasted Tomlinson's entire career. He traded Eli Manning (two rings) for Philip Rivers (zero) and was forced to because he refused to acquiesce to Archie's demands and basically undermine AJ Smith, arguably the worst GM in football for keeping Norv Turner for as long as he has, allowing a stellar roster to fall apart into disrepair and now basically allowing Rivers' career to spiral out of control down the drain.

9) Jim Irsay-Massive loser. How long did Polian string you along thinking that you could win Super bowls with effectively nothing outside of Peyton and a wide receiver? Did it ever cross your mind that the one Super Bowl you did win was the one year you had a great defensive player and yet here you are drafting dog crap year after year? Peyton Manning can win games offensively with the offensive personnel the Jets are fielding right now. And yet Polian drafted offense over and over........and outside of Edge, Wayne, Clark, and Harrison, how many panned out?

10) Cincinnati Bengals-What is it with Ohio football teams? You know why he keeps hiring Marvin Lewis? Because Lewis is probably the only coach in football who doesn't mind the fact that he has to do most of the scouting himself.

This is big news in Cinci:

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...re-two-scouts/

They now have 3 scouts. Well done!

11) Woody-Woody gets on this list because he's meddling and likes to be the ringleader of a circus, but to say he's the worst? Honestly, Woody's biggest fault, in my mind, is spending 1.8 Billion with Tisch and Mara and not having a retractable roof on that Stadium.........

Not even close. He's annoying and weird, but is he worse than any of the ones I listed above?

Mike Tannabaum is not the root of the problem with the Jets, the root of the problem is Woody Johnson. I agree Mike Tannabaum has to be accountable but the blame lies even higher it rests at the top. The Jets need to be fixed from the top down like all great football organizations.

All great football organizations are sound from the top down. Great football organizations make football decisions for football reasons. The Jets got Brett Farve for all the wrong reasons they got him to sell PSL's for the new stadium and would have done just as well or better with Chad Pennington. Woody Johnson sent his puppet Mike Tannabaum to fetch him Brett Farve. The Jets went up and moved up in the draft again for all the wrong reasons so they could get a young franchise QB so he sell PSL's. Woody again told Mike Tannabaum to fetch him Mark Sanchez not caring if he was not experienced in college and only played one season. Woody Johnson wanted more headlines so he to Tannabaum to get him Tebow to sell tickets again for all the wrong reasons. Even Rex Ryan who I think is a quality defense mind was hired because he could drum up lots of headlines so he could sell more tickets. All these moves were not made for football reasons.

The Patriots only make moves for football reasons. The Steelers only make moves for football reasons. The Giants only make moves for football reasons. The top teams in this sport make football moves for football reasons and if there are other intentions in that move they are made with the wrong intent and those teams fail.

Mike Tannenbaum is a puppet for Woody Johnson and on top of that is not a football guy. A top football guy will not be a puppet and be forced to make personal decisions for non-football reasons. Until the Jets get fixed at the top they will not be great, as a Jet fan its hard to come to the realization but unfortunately this is the reality.

Agreed, but Cleveland does have new ownership now. So, the jury is out on that one.

What about the Cards? Don't the Bidwell's still run the show down there.

What have the Rams done since Georgia Frontiere sold the club?

Bud Adams seems to be going off the deep end in Tennesee.

Where as Woody isn't a great owner he isn't running things from behind doors either. Unlike some owners that force the hand of both their GMs and Coachs. You don't hear Woody telling the press the winning-est coach in franchise history will be fired if he goes 8-8. Yeah I am sure he has had his hand in some personnel choices but for the most part he leaves it to his GM. He doesn't need to sell Jerry wipes he sells baby wipes. lol
