2013 EXPECTED SALARY CAP REALEASES-
Only 4 contracts are worth shedding but they are 4 that are worthy of makings the moves for the money it will save. A player like RT Jason Smith, or even SS Eric Smith could always be retained at a cheaper price for special teams and leadership.

RT Jason Smith brings the biggest savings of the off-season with $12 Million dollars coming off the books clean with a zero cap hit when Smith gets the axe. If the FO liked what they saw in '12 he is young enough with a high enough cieling to be considered worth a roster spot in Wayne Hunter's old "swing" tackle role.

ILB Bart Scott would save $5.5 Million off the cap. This is why I feel the talk of him getting released prior to this year was crazy. Waiting for 2013 saved us with $1.5 Million cap hit and a $7 Million savings. Demario Davis will be primed and ready by then.

ROLB Calvin Pace represents a $5.5 Million savings by cutting the underwhelming OLB in 2013. A cap hit of $3 Million would be dead money, but it would come with a savings of $8.5 Million. The Outside Linebacker position will be hurting but will be a draft day fix for sure, right?

SS Eric Smith would be a savings of $3 Million if the team would need to shave off a little more space for a big move. Smith can be cut with no cap hit whatsoever, and is just a must for the money saved much alike Jason Smith's deal above.

The key to this negotiation is getting the deal that will lock him in for the long term and not just one that will get by. Revis getting that deal with the Jets cutting a sizeable chunck up front can give a little wiggle room cap wise in the form of $3-$5 Million.

- C Nick Mangold can do the restructure that has almost become expected when "long term" deals are signed now. Mangold is not only the type of guy and player that would do this, but again to get this done Woody Johnson is cutting a nice check to turn salary into bonus and who turns down a multi million dollar check? Mangold could releive anywhere from $3-$5 Million much alike the Revis cap relief.*

However the new CBA has the RFA tag at 1.2mill, 1.8 if you want comp.

Revis salary is only 3 mill next year, but has a roster bonus of 3 mill also, so
I can't see how you can cut 4 mill savings from 6 mill in 2013 comp, as you have to amortize the % of new bonus into 2013

You make no allowanace for the 6 mill that you will need to alloacate to the 2013 rookie class.

You don't account for the 1.7mill of incentives that Landry earns this year

Cro has been absolutely incredible since Revis went out, lights out in coverage, way less penalties than the past, and much better in run support. I watch a lot of football but I'm not gonna sit here and say I analyze corners so Cro may not be THE best out there right now. But he's gotta be close.

And if some advanced stats come in and show that those other guys shut down WRs a lot better, then fine. But tackles and INTs is not gonna get it done.

This cap situation is bad. It almost reminds me of when the Knicks were in perpetual cap hell but not good at all even still. The one plus in the NFL is rebuilding can happen quickly with the amount of parity.

Unfortunately, I think this season (probably bc of the cap situation) we got stuck in a holding pattern. We kept most of the same cast of characters that underperformed last year and our weak depth has really shown through as a result of injuries.

I'm honestly getting tired of using so many early picks on defense. Probably wouldn't be as frustrated if they were hits but with how horrendous this offense consistently is we keep ignoring it.

In the past 11 drafts, back to 2002, we've taken four offensive skill players in the first two rounds of the draft, Kellen Clemens (2nd), Mark Sanchez (1st), Dustin Keller (1st), Stephen Hill (1st). If you expand that to the first three rounds, it's still just seven players, adding Chris Baker, B.J. Askew and Shonn Greene, all third round picks. That's ELEVEN years of drafting. Not one Pro Bowl-caliber player from those first round picks. Half are busts or verging on it.

Now in 2006, the Jets did take Mangold and Ferguson first round, which was huge. But you wonder why this offense has so little talent right now? Because we are not investing in it!

Of course, early round draft picks can be busts and late round picks can turn out to be successes. Maybe it's the talent evaluation that falters but the Jets are not finding the 'star' steals. They've found tough and scrappy players, like Cotchery and Leon Washington in the 4th round, even Kerley more recently who I like a lot as a slot guy.

So I know the defense is slow and old in places but the offense is just an absolute disaster. I don't want to see another pass rusher who's supposed to be the 'next Terrell Suggs' but can't get on the field be our first round pick. Let's try finding that in the 4th round instead of swinging and missing on skill players over and over later in the draft.

We have at least 6 picks (depending on the conditional pick for Otah). I understand drafting BPA but I want to see offense be a priority whether it means trading down and picking up more picks to do it. We need depth and some quality young offensive talent, a RB and another passing option whether it be a TE or WR. Hill was a start this year - he has potential - but we need much more to revitalize this offense.

Scott and Pace, although many would like to seem them get released, are not givens, and don't forget about the daunting task of re-signing LaRon Landry. Will we be able to afford giving him a four/five-year, $30-40 million contract? I'm not too sure.

No actually, they don't. Go look at Revis's numbers in those departments an you won't find anything that special. What determines the talent of a corner is how well they shut down their target. Since Revis has gone down Cro has been an absolute monster. From what I've seen and what the proper numbers will likely tell you, he has definitely made a case that he might be the second best CB in football.

Landry is not worth that much on the open market. He has been great for us but over 5 mil a year for a S is high end. Given his history not sure he gets more then that. The franchise # on a S is only about 6. If he wants that kind of deal might as well just tag him one year.

I have watched Cro for years and this year he is playing like a beast.

He still bites on fakes way to many times and during the Seattle game bit on the end around pass and got lucky he wasnt beat deep earlier as he bit again but the ball was underthrown.

Ok then now I got ya. I could kinda see your point then. His past play can't be ignored because its been anywhere from good to great. My point is really that THIS YEAR Cro has been lights out and consistent. The NFL is a what have you done lately sport, if he keeps playing like this it's gonna be hard to argue that there are many better.

I think the contract he signed precluded the jets from tagging him. This contract was a mulligan.But your right in that nobody will give him that deal.
