The chant doesn't *need* Ed to continue - but he was exceptionally good at getting people riled up and energized to belt out the chant. His seat location (proximity to sideline cameras) in Giants Stadium, his intensity and his brothers shoulders -- made him stand out and a natural to lead a stadium wide J-E-T-S chant. People forget, the chant was a section thing. Dueling ends of the upper deck would chant it back and forth. Ed didn't invent the J-E-T-S chant, but he was the first (and only) to lead the entire stadium. A few of those in the late 90s - were absolutely spine tingling.

Ed gets credit for taking the chant where it is today in American sports lore. His participation in game day will not be forgotten and will most certainly be missed.

I am not going to go as overboard as above, but Fireman Ed lost his luster when the new stadium was built. New fan base at games and different location in new stadium did him no favors. You can thank Woody for that.
And if he is not employed by team, how is it that he can climb up on that wall/railing during the game? Other fans allowed to do that ? Bottom line is that when the team is playing as poorly as they currently are, no one cares about Fireman Ed as there is nothing to cheer about!!!!!!!!

Sounds like something Philly Eagles fans would do.

No need there, fans don't need a mascot to be into it, just a QB playing QB, and not RB.
