Good teams that caught some bad breaks or have major injuries coming back have late season runs...

This Jet team, right now, is awful. It is one of the worst teams in the league and entirely incapable of playing consistent quality football, against any opponent.

You must really be an old timer if you remember 1966-75 when the Jets were 17-2-1 against the Pats.

People will think I'm crazy but the Jets are one of the best "average" NFL teams which means they actually could run the table if things go there way.

Fumbles that bounce just right, tipped balls that end up in our DBs hands, who really knows.
The Jets defense going from playing the likes of Big Ben, on the road, the 49ers,
Texans, Pats twice to the next 5 teams is a big step down.

Cards- Cro on Fitz. Rookie QB, playing at 1:00 in the east
Jets win
At Jags- Cro on Blackman, no MJD, bad run defense
Jets win
At Titans- Cro on Britt, bad Oline, another team we can run on.
Jets win
Chargers- out of playoffs, on the road in the East & a 1:00 game
Jets win
At Bills- Win & In scenario, no one can believe the Jets crawled out of the hole they dug for themselves. Redemption game, Rex claims, "we just had the best practice ever"
LOSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Papers the next day in NY
Same ole Jets!

LOL... That is the script they usually follow. You can never underestimate the value of raising our hopes and expectations before lowering the boom.

Not to be a jerk, and anything can happen, but what have the Jets done to earn a grade as good as "average?" By definition (and performance), they're quite below average.

As was said before, if the Jets get back to 7-7 and are truly in the playoff hunt with 2 games left then everyone will be back on board with the team. Then if the Jets make the playoffs no one will care what happened during the season anyway.

Just make the playoffs. Nobody cares about the regular season if you make the playoffs.

Indy is 7-4
Jets beat them 30-9
Rams beat the Seahawks
Jets went on the the road won 28-13

The step down from the Jets schedule which just so happened to be the toughest in the NFL up to this point.
Jets defense can stop teams that are incomplete. Cro is one of the best corners in the league & can take out any one of these team #1 receivers coming up.
That limits what's left for Rex to stop.
None of these teams will be consistent enough on 3rd down. Because of that it will give the Jets offense 3 to 4 more possessions on offense to pound the ball.
You'll see & it starts on Sunday.

A run like that would only be worth it if they are blowing out teams. If they get into the playoffs on the strength of a string of squeakers against bad teams, it would be fool's gold.

The Jets have a very good defense and a weak offense. Put those two together and you get "average". What the Jets really need now is for Stephen Hill and Bilal Powell to step up in the last 5 games of the season. These guys are rookies but the major problem with the offense is at the #1WR spot and the RB's need to pick up more yards. Powell has shown is on track to being a good player. Maybe they should use McKnight a bit more too. The main thing is Stephen Hill, he's only a rookie but the Jets need better play from him. Not resigning Plaxico over the summer has turned out to be a big mistake because he put up 8 TD's for the Jets last year in a Schottenheimer run offense and the Jets could really use those 8 TD's right now. Water under the bridge... We need more production out of Stephen Hill the rest of the way.

If Jets are an average team, they will end up 8-8

NFL wants parity, ideally all teams would be 8-8 and it would be a statistician's nightmare to determine who makes playoffs.

Outside of the Miami game (which was a special teams meltdown) we have dominated all the average/below average teams we faced this year (Bills, Colts, Rams)... the remaining teams on the schedule are all below average, so based on that we could win out... however I think we will likely lose 1-2 games just based on our lack of consistency and propensity to make mistakes... 7-9

Jets are 19th in yards against and a scorching 26th in points against. By your standards, the Panthers are the '85 bears.

Yeah but at least we'd get some fun out of this season. Making the playoffs would make up for some of the bad losses the fans have had to endure this year.
