Tyrann "Honey-Badger" Mathieu to enter NFL draft
http://espn.go.com/nfl/draft2013/sto...ft-source-says
Former LSU defensive back Tyrann Mathieu announced Thursday he is entering the next NFL draft. Mathieu, known as the "Honey Badger," was a Heisman Trophy finalist known for his knack for making plays last year. But the 20-year-old Mathieu was suspended for this season due to a substance abuse issue he has continued to work on. Mathieu was arrested last month on a possession of marijuana charge. He also was dismissed from the football team in August for failing a drug test and entered a treatment program run by former NBA player John Lucas. Instead of transferring to another lower-division school to play this season, Mathieu re-enrolled at LSU but is not playing football. |

The guy gets in the headlines and has had issues off the field. Sounds like a Rex Ryan type of guy.

He will be drafted. And drafted rather early. Why? Two words: Janoris Jenkins. Jenkins was waaaay worse than the Badge, even when Jenkins transferred to North Alabama he was no angel. And if Honey cleans up good after working with Lucas and shows teams that he has, he'll be drafted pretty early.

Mathieu isn't much more than a glorified return man. |

He's way too small to compete as a CB in the NFL. He'll go undrafted.

All depends on his work outs before the draft. If he looks good someone will fall in love with him and think they can redeem him.

I beleive the Bears once drafted pretty much only a punt and kickoff returner in the early 2000's in round number 2... Can't remember how that Hester guy worked out for them...

He can be a solid PR/KR and will be good on ST. He is very small, not sure he will be more than a dime back on defense.

Im also curious how he would do on offense....he's virtually the same size as chris rainey, less straight line speed, but as a slot guy/bubble screens etc he could create some mismatches.

He's really not that good. He's an excellent return man that made some big plays on a defense that was able to hide his deficiencies because of how good everyone else was. I remember seeing fans talking about him like he was a top 10 pick and just shaking my head.

Even if he is just drafted to play Special teams and play on 3rd down packages, this kid is worth a draft pick. There are so many slow, non-playmaking players taken in the mid to late parts of the draft that a guy like Mathieu will definitely be worth a flier.
