As a starter G-Mac has only lost three games since he was in 8th grade.

http://www.newerascouting.com/2011/0...outing-report/

My favorite line was

Quote:
Field Vision

Field Vision along with accuracy form McElroy’s top two traits as a prospect. He is very good at making safeties and linebackers move with his eyes and then hitting a receiver away from those defenders. If his primary read is covered he does a decent job of finding his 2nd and 3rd although he seems to panic a bit when this happens. He always keeps his eyes downfield instead of concentrating on pass rushers.

Going through 4 years mark Sanchez still has tremendous difficulty going through his progressions, and drawing off safeties with head movements. Obviously accuracy and turn overs have plagued mark every game, and these are actual Greg's strengths.

Sounds like Rex's dream Qb.

Too much is made of G-MAC's arm strength. Who gives a ****? Any coach would tell you they'd take good decision making and accuracy over arm strength any day. Hell, Mark has arm strength and we see just how much that's gotten us.

G-MAC doesn't give a damn about these fictional ass haters. Get off his dick, brehs.

Arm strength is important. With press coverages and more athletic DBs in the NFL, a strong arm is necessary to fit the ball into tight windows. So, no, its not a "who gives a ****?" thing because all coaches give a ****.

That said, Mac can improve his arm strength. Most all top current QBs have done that.

I thought McElroy looked great in pre-game warm-ups yesterday (the little you can tell from those) and when Sanchez threw the pick to open up our first Offensive series you could feel a collective solar plexus shot in the guts of those dopey enough to have shown up.

However, with Tebow sidelined, and Mark benched, it felt like an enormous clown show had been wheeled off the field and the real game was resuming.

The energy change was palpable in the players and the fans.

Thats all I need to know at this point.

If the clown show gets wheeled back out there next week, I think it will be a fatal shot for Tanny/Rex, and rightfully so.

I was at the game yesterday, his arm is honestly not as weak as some of the people here are making it out to be. It was reported that the guy spent his entire off-season working on improving is mechanics and adding muscle to quicken his release and boost his arm strength up. His arm isn't or Aaron Rodgers or Matthew Stafford, but that back shoulder throw to Kerley and the first deep ball to hill looked good enough to me. As long as the guy doesn't hold the ball in the pocket for 5 seconds only to toss it up to the other team instead of throwing it away, he is an improvement.

Exactly. I'll trade Mark's stronger arm and derps for Mac's weaker arm and smarter play. Perhaps saying arm strength doesn't matter is going too far, but let's realize that it's certainly not the most important attribute for a QB.

And, yes, that is definitely sig-worthy. lol.

QB's are like cake.

Arm strength is a great thing. But it is a useless tool in the hands of an inaccurate QB who make poor decisions. It is a quality that is "icing" on the QB cake. Without the icing, it's still cake, it's just not as mouth-watering. But in order to even have a cake upon which to spread your icing, you first have to bake the cake. The "essential" ingredients to baking a cake are flour and eggs. Accuracy and decision making are the flour and eggs the QB cake. Without those ingredients you just don't have a QB.

So would you rather have a good cake with no icing - McElroy - Or a cake baked with rotten eggs and stale flour with icing - Sanchez.

McElroy

Sanchez

Absolutely arm strength matters in the NFL.

Lack of arm strength will eliminate those types of patterns that SMC describes (deep seam between the CB & Safety, 10-15 yard sideline out, deep crossing patterns, etc.).

While it matters, it's useless if the QB is inaccurate and makes poor decisions. The Jets choice here is not between John Elway and Joe Montana. The question is which guy should be QB for the rest of the season. I think the answer is pretty self-evident.

Totally agree Sonny.

There are still plenty of pass play options available that don't require a rocket arm.

Eliminating stupid decisions and turnovers is the key.

what i was thinking, was that mcelroy reads defenses quicker, so he gets the ball out quicker, so it's ok if the ball takes a second or so longer to get to the target b/c defenders aren't as ready as they were for sanchez's ball. also, mcelroy seems to have better ball placement, at least on the shorter throws, so they're less likely to be those easy picks where the defender steps in front of the throw.

Ummm, 9 NFL passes do not properly evaluate arm strength. Need to see more.

Although that was a great 1-foot TD pass.

How can we discuss anything about McElroy, he's only played 1 1/2 quarters of football against a weak opponent. He looked pretty good yesterday, although one of his passes was a sure interception if it wasn't called back on a penalty. First we need to see him play an entire game, then we need to see him play an entire game against a tough team like Pittsburgh or New England. Until we see that we won't really know what we have in him.

Having said that, Brady sat for a while before he got his shot when Bledsoe went down so who knows what McElroy might be bringing to the table. We'll have to wait and see.

So who was that who stepped in yesterday with no warning and did what he had to do to win the game?

Many a quality QB had inauspicious starts that no one had scripted.

I don't even think Macelroy practiced with the 1st string last week either?
The Cards D is anything but weak.
It's actually better than the Pats & they play with zero offense helping them.
But, you win in this league by avoiding TOs.
The 49ers lost yesterday because of TOs
Lions- TOs
Sanchez was a TO MACHINE!

He's very similar to Dalton... In both body type, delivery and arm strength.

McElroy seems to have a pretty quick release which really helps... Chad really didn't have the quickest release and that hurt his lack of arm strength even more. Just gives corners and DB's an extra second or two to make the jump on the ball.

What McElroy has to show is a willingness/ability to throw and complete that 15 yard ball. The occasional 18 yard out would be nice too.

You can survive on short passes and all, but eventually the DB's creep up and shut that stuff down.

Sanchez actually put on some weight and increased his core strength and velocity this offseason...mcelroy should probably follow the exact same routine.

If he can add a little more zip, and 5 or so lbs of muscle, I think it will make a big difference
