"Fun" facts :

NFL career

Jones was drafted by the New York Jets from the University of Texas with the second overall pick in the 1980 NFL Draft, which the Jets received by trading two first round draft picks. He played wide receiver for the Jets from 1980-1985. Since Jones was a world class sprinter, he could beat any coverage, but had trouble catching the football. He was viewed more as an athlete than a receiver. The $2.1 million contract he received was the first NFL contract worth over a million dollars. He amassed 138 receptions and 13 touchdowns in 5 years.[4]

He is considered one of the Jets' top ten draft busts due to the draft picks traded for him and the large contract.

Why does that sound eerily like Stephen Hill? ---> "Could beat any coverage but has trouble catching the football"

Hopefully, Hill turns out to be a Good WR(and no Jones-Bust)

Oh and isn't it nice that the JETS are the team that gave the VERY FIRST Over-Payment of a player, let alone Draft-bust?

Not that similar at all

Jones was a smallish sprinter type with great stra ight ahead speed

Hill is a tall longer strider

Jones never made a block in college or the NFL

Hill was a terrific run support blocker at GT and thst hss been one of his strengths with the Jets

Jones was a reach where drafted

Hill was a steal...maybe THE steal where drafted in round 2

It it's convenient to immediately declare every Jet draft pick an immediate bust in their rookie year but in this case IMO its completely unwarranted

And I'm not talking about Hill, but in general.....

I remember him getting drafted. I don't remember any big brouhaha about him getting overpaid. Probably got less than the first and more than the third like every non QB draft pick every year.

You know that the source of many Wikipedia entries are not all that accurate dont you??

yeah I'm aware of that but they're more often "on the mark" than not, as well.

Regardless, I think Vernon Gholston is the Greatest Draft-Bust in Jets history now.
