Give him a QB, tell him to stop talking so much, and get a new GM to handle personnel and the Jets will be more than fine with Rex as coach.
I think what scares everybody are the blow out losses. The way they lost the AFCCG the last time too. The first time was a disaster. We saw the start of the Sanchez sack fumble routine. For a defensive genius this doesn't make sense.

Parcells got to the same place Rex did ... Rex did it with a much less talented team and did it twice in a row. You're on crack ... Lets not forget Parcells bounced on the sinking ship and never put it back in order. It took us a while to recover .... Rex isn't going to leave like Parcells did when things got bad if Rex leaves its not by choice he's not a quitter. Give me a break ....

What evidence do we have that Rex is a genius? He is a very good defensive coach, but what has he done to demand the title of genius?

[QUOTE=w0mbat;4714583Rex isn't without his faults but the main culprit of this mess is Tannenbaum.[/QUOTE]

Yes and no.

Tanny is known to value the input of his coaches (as he should). He has the final say, but his head coach has a much bigger influence than we all probably think.

In Tanny's first three years (with Mangini as the coach), he improved the roster greatly. He had two good drafts ('06 was arguably a great one). He made some excellent trades (Jenkins, and Thomas Jones).

Since Rex came in the talent has slowly gone downhill. The team has drafted poorly, and doled out some terrible contracts. He made two good trades (Cromartie and Braylon), but also some bad ones (Holmes). Then he compounded the Holmes move by giving him a bad contract.

So basically:

2006-2008: Very good, to excellent personnel management.
2009-2010: Poor personnel and cap management

Tanny is the common denominator for both time spans. The head coaches were different. Therefore it can be argued that Rex is just as much, if not more, to blame for mismanaging the personnel.

Well he says he is.... Getting where he has gotten this defense without a dynamic pass rusher is nothing short of a miracle. A QB and pass rusher is something he hasn't had here. I would have loved to see what a healthy Farve could have done here in 09.

Not on crack. Let's not forget Parcells inherited a 1-15 team and had them 9-7 and a hair width away from a playoff appearance the very next season. Then continued to improve the teams record year 2 making the finals , and year 3 had Jets as odds on favorite for at least a SB appearance until Vinnie ruptured the achilles at the start of Parcells 3rd season. Rex inherited a much better team and rode them till it all fell apart around him as he's basically clueless as a HC.

Parcells turned things around, not the asshats who've followed. "Prolonged success"? By that you refer to 2 consecutive playoff appearances? That's not prolonged success, that's a notch up from mediocre. Prolonged success would refer to the Pats current run, the Steelers through most of their previous 20 years, Ravens over most of their history, the 49er's in the 80's, Green Bay during the majority of past dozen or so seasons etc.

Working for Woody is partially a puppeteer show.
Actually Tanenbaum got us out of that situation and with Mangini was able to assemble a decent team. Poor drafting and poor investments in players (Holmes) have hurt us since then.

The Giants weren't exactly stellar in the regular seasons of their last two Super Bowl seasons. Actually I recall quite a bit of talk regarding Coughlin being fired at the end of both of those years. Now the guys a friggen hero.

And the fact that Rex got to 2 AFC championship games with Sanchez at QB is plenty of evidence that the guy is a very good coach.

Hell, he made it further than Parcells did and Parcells had a better roster.
Uhh, no. He inherited Kotites 1 and 15 team and got them to 9 and 7 in his first year.
