that team grades players. Tanny is not sitting in a meeting watching film and grading a CB coming out of his backpedal. He is a manager. Rex does the same with his coaches. They review NFL film and based on that and seeing them perform rank available FA. They also meet with the college players that were identified as fits at the combine and pro days. They then assign a grade to those players that were previously graded by the personnel dept. Rex also ranks in critical order the positions most in need. Rex, tanny and Bradway then hash out the different grades on the same player and set the board. Rex lets the GM know what positions Tanny is not sitting and watching film and grading a CB on his transition out of his backpedal. Last edited by patman; 12-07-2012 at 08:46 AM. |

You are correct....a lot of subpar grades there.
Im not trying to have a typical jets insider ranting thread here, but if you take all the emotion out of whether we "like" rex or not, and simply look at what he does or doesnt do well, the list is staggering as far as his lack of basic head coaching skills. |

Why would a new GM want to keep Rex? I'd imagine that forcing Rex down the throat of a new GM will keep some good candidates away.
Let the new GM decide if he wants Rex or not. Handcuffing him to Rex involuntarily would be a disastrous way to start off a new GM and will reduce the pool of candidates. Leave it to Woody to be so focking stupid yet again. FOr all the allegations of this team being managed by clowns and being a circus act, it is Woody Johnson who is the biggest clown in the show. If only we could fire this idiot. |

Sure. He's great at X's, completely inept at O's. So here's the breakdown without emotion, just being completely honest:
1. In game management: Time outs, clock, challenges etc-Average to below average. Not many coaches are masters at this. 2. Roster management/Personnel evaluation-Poor 3. Lockerroom/motivation-I can't give him a terrible grade on this because he motivated an inferior team to some big playoff wins. But these last 2 years have been very poor. 4. Coaching Philosophy (ie are we running the right systems)-I don't think so. This is not a defensive league anymore. You can not put all the eggs on the defensive side of the ball and just leave leftovers to the offense. Poor in today's game. 5. Staff Management - Are the coaches here the right guys for the job-Poor, simply because the guy just has no ideahow to evaluate an offensive coach. 6. Developing players and putting them in position to succeed. -Poor. Wilkerson has been a nice player but he should be considering where he was drafted. Our DB's have developed very well, that's it. 7. Installing discipline. -terrible, players running their mouth, coaches running their mouth, Rex running his mouth.... 8. Accountability-Name me one player or coach Rex held accountable. Hell, they couldn't even fire Schotty properly. 9. X's-Phenominal 10-O's-Atrocious. |

Its typical half *** football management.
We address one of the problems (the GM) but we don't fire him, we just demote him. We need a new GM but any new GM that comes here must be forced to keep the coach from the previous regime in place and work, in come capacity, with the former GM as well. And the cycle of stupidity continues......... |

If I was a fan of the Jets-
Tanny is reassigned to cap issues only- not contracts. A director of football operations comes in to act as a go-between Woody and the GM. He deals with the league, the schedule, facilities etc. A new GM comes in with a football and not a business background. He has final say on personnel and contracts. The decision to keep Rex should be up to him.For his own personal sake, he may want Rex to stick around and take the heat next season as he fields next years team. While this sounds kind of heartless It allows the new GM a personal understanding of the coaching staff. The new GM can review the scouting reports from all the scouts over the last few years, and with 20-20 hindsight promote the ones that Identified talent and get rid of the non performers. Between his contacts and the new DFO's contacts they will hire and reorganize the Scouting depts both pro and college. As a Patriot fan, I would be concerned if the jets were restructured as. Marty Schotenhimer Director of Football Operations Eric Decosta - GM Mike Zimmer HC Bobby Petrino OC Jim Tomsula DC Marty built great teams in Clevland and KC, Game day decisions don't matter in this position. Decosta is well thought of and young enough to still learn from a mentor such as Marty. He has a solid contract with Balt but the league may pressure Bisciotti to release him as the league wants a successful team in this market. Zimmer is liked by his players, but is a hard nosed, results guy. Petrino worked with Zimmer in the past and with Coughlin who said he was the best game day OC he knew. His personal daliance will keep him away from the college ranks for at least 2 more years as that heat cools down. Tomsula, is another talented defensive mind, Zimmer as a DC ran both a 3-4 and a 4-3 so whatever direction Tomsula wanted to go, would be ok with him. |

Well, it's highly likely that AJ Smith and Norv Turner will be looking for jobs:

Any GM with football skills who isn't given the opportunity to bring in his own staff isn't going to work out.

Besides, in the last 5 years, where has Tanny showed he was such a great cap guy? People make it seem like this guy knows more about the cap and its rules than anyone else in the league. There is no evidence of this to prove he is such a "cap wizard". |
