4.8 yards/carry for his career and over 10 yards/catch. He's a role player, but a very good one. Don't take my word for it. The winningest franchise of the last decade thinks he's worth a roster spot and significant touches in big spots. But you're much better at evaluating talent than they are, I bet. |

Fixed your post Fixit.
He's a third string back/hybrid, on the only team in the NFL that could make any use of him. Congrats to the Pats for that. Doesn't make Woodhead a good fit elsewhere at traditional RB. Us dumpng him was the best thing for us and him. We got rid of a worthless player for us, and he got to play in the only place in the league he'd ever get a chance to touch the ball. |

Greatest player ever with a 20.8 ypc and it has nothing to do with fact that Tom Brady is the qb and defenses do nothing to gameplan for him b/c they have 10 other skill position players they focus more on. Joe McKnight would avg -1.8 ypc with Brady and Belichik. Last edited by detjetsfan; 12-08-2012 at 02:59 PM. |

Woodhead is far from a minor role player. Again, just because your team couldn't do anything with him doesn't mean he's not talented. Woodhead was on one team, the Jets, who couldn't figure out how to use him (big surprise there). He goes to another team, and contributes on a regular basis. Saying he couldn't do it on 30 other teams because the Jets screwed it up is just dumb. Through 12 games he has 57 carries (more than all but two guys on the Jets), 26 receptions (more than all but two guys on the Jets), 500 yards of offense (more than all but two guys on the Jets), 4 TDs (more than all but one guy on the Jets), and plays special teams. Yeah, totally "very minor." If he's a very minor role player, what does that make damn near the entire Jets roster? |

2) And? New England cut all three of those players (Haynesworth after 8 games). Unsurprisingly, none of those three has been heard from since, unlike Woodhead. They make mistakes, but they don't force themselves to live with those mistakes (we call that "Sanchezing"). They keep productive guys. Woodhead isn't riding the pine. He's a substantial part of that team. |

If Pats win the SB last season, Woodhead is a serious contender for that game's MVP, though it probably goes to Brady. The bitterness is strong in this thread.

More accurate is generally considered better.

The fact the Pats were in a unique situation to use his limited skillset is, as I said, aa good thing for them. Never know when that 3rd string RB might be needed. It's a silly argument. Woodhead was an abject failure in NY behind L.T. and Greene. He succeedd in a minor way in New England as #3 RB. The only way to know if he's succeed outside his role in New England would be to see him leave New England and see how he does. I'd bet he gets signed, listed at #3 RB someplace, and we never hear of him again. Quote:

It makes him exactly what he is. The thirs string RB/Flanker and a minor roleplayer. Quote:
Because at that point, it was either L.T., Greene, McKnight (a 4th rounder that same year), or UDFA Woodhead. Only a fool would have kept Woodhead. Which is kinda the point. Last edited by Warfish; 12-09-2012 at 12:02 AM. |

When we got rid of Leon we should have kept Woodhead. Just a 3rd down scat back is all he is.

The fact that the Jets couldn't find a spot find a spot for little Danny Woodcock tells you all you need to know about the jets,.

Woodhead's final stats:
76 carries/301 yards/4.0 per/19 first downs/4 touchdowns 40 receptions/446 yards/11.2 per/25 first downs/3 touchdowns And lots of clutch plays. Best. Very minor. Roleplayer. Ever. Thanks, Jets! |

I think the problem with the Jets cutting Woodhead that year was that they cut him so that they keep David Clowney, consistent king of the preseason.
![]() Woodhead's not a big superstar but you can't pretend they made the "correct" choice in hindsight. It happens though. |

I liked when we had Brad Smith but he should have been #2 QB. He could run the wildcat, great as a punt returner, good on special teams, used as a receiver or halfback. What good is having McElroy except to take up a roster spot. Yes he won that won game against Az but so would Brad Smith if he were the backup.
Just venting
