Too bad the article is wrong... The Steelers would finish ahead of the Bengals due to sweeping them this season. You settle the division first if there are three teams... Then you compare the Steelers to the Jets and the Steelers go on their head to head win.... Writer is a moron...

You are correct. That was not an official scenario, just a writer incorrectly explaining one possible scenario.

Regardless....the fact that we are not officially out at least gives us something to play for. I'll wait until we run the table to worry but at least we are playing meaningful games.

LOL. I liked the first part. The lexicon of the 2012 Jets is a strange one. It would be fitting if we made the playoffs.

Let's play a game of word association to describe the New York Jets season so far.

"Season-ending-injury"

"Terrible"

"Quitter"

"Dodgeball"

"Buttfumble"

"Playoffs?"

4 scenarios to get in (assuming we win out...ahem)

Scenario 1

Wk 15 Bengals irrelevant, Pitts lose
Wk 16 beng over Pitt
Wk 17 beng lose, Pitts irrelevant

Scenario 2
Wk 15 Bengals irrelevant, Pitts lose
Wk 16 Pitt over beng
Wk 17 bengals irrelevant Pitts lose

Scenario 3
Wk 15 Bengals irrelevant, Pitts win
Wk 16 beng over Pitt
Wk 17 beng lose, Pitts lose

Scenario 4
Indy loses out
Would also get 5 seed in a 3 way tie at 9-7

Summary- bengals game this week means nothing....if steelers win this week, they would then have to lose to cincy and then both cincy and steelers lose wk 17 or Indy loses out

Depends on how the Bengals get to 9-7... If it is just Jets/Bengals and the Bengals have another AFC loss the Jets would get in...

Additionally, NE beating Hou Monday night would help as it would make there two games vs Indy way more meaningful.

Jets chances, assuming they win out, are now at 50%. If the Colts would have lost today I think those chances would have been close to 75% (oh well).

Lets go Dallas!

The writer may very well be a moron and he may have actually been wrong, but not about what you said. He clearly says the the Bengals would need to beat Pitts (in his scenario) and then clearly says the Bengals would beat Pitts in the head to head tie breaker. I am not sure if he is correct about the last part, but in his scenario Pitt would not sweep the Bengals this season.

it's a week too early for this stuff. in Week 15 it is clear who we want to see win and who we want to see lose. then start crunching the permutations.

Looking at the playoff scenarios, it would take a miracle even now.

If the Colts win 1 game of their last 3, they guarantee they finish with a better record than the Jets. If they win 2 they clinch a playoff berth.

If the Steelers win 2 of 3 remaining, they guarantee finishing ahead of the Jets because of their win over them in Week 2. If one of those wins is against the Bengals, they clinch a playoff berth.

It would take a lot. The Colts and Bengals are still very much in the drivers seats for those playoff spots.

Colts are in with one more win. And they play KC in two weeks time.

Titan slowing that game yesterday was huge. On the other hand, colts play texans twice and kc has looked better the last couple weeks. Is it at arrowhead?

so there is no way the Jets can get in at 8-8? (barring a CIN/PIT tie?)
