Because that was what he was drafted to do. Sadly they didn't think to replace him in the off season. They did the same stuff with Moss for like 4 years acting like returning kicks was the only thing he did well.

Kerley is a fumble waiting to happen. He either fumbles on a punt return or after he catches a pass. On the other hand he has been a decent player for a 6th round pick. He seems like a decent slot receiver. With the Jets relying so much on Kerley it shows what a lack of talent they have because Kerley is nothing special.

Just wondering why our best WR (I know, not saying much) is risking injury returning punts. I mean, he's not even good at it. That fumble in the Seattle game was BRUTAL.

Because the Jets can't wait until he gets hurt and then claim it was all unforseeable!!!

Starters play STs, that's the way it is. Landry plays punt coverage. Wilson is on punt return. You want players that can do something well on the field.

He's a very good player with one real weakness: his ball-handling. If he was on the Patriots they'd be talking about him on SportsCenter every couple days.

I don't know why he fields punts, though. To me it's not even so much about the potential for injury, it's about him coughing the ball up and hurting us. I'm sure he's worse than league average solely as a returner. I hope we get a specialist #4 WR/CB in free agency or the draft.

True, Kerley is a mediocre at best punt returner. So why can't one of our less valuable scrub WR's have that job instead?
