So how is it possible the Jets are actually closing in on .500, perhaps even better? What is the #1 reason the Jets, with all these apparent problems, are winning games? I understand 6-7 isn't exactly successful, but based on what most people -- on this board, on TV/radio, experts, etc. -- think of them, the Jets should have no more than 2 wins. So how do they have 6 Ws?

I think the talent level is below average in the league, but the Jets do have some players, particularly on the O Line and defense. And I actually think the Jets are coached better than most of us believe and they play hard for Rex -- usually.
This is why the Jets have 5 of their 6 wins

Bills are not good
Dolphins kicker had a bad day
Rams are not good
Arizona had the worst QB in the history of the NFL playing for them
Jacksonville is terrible.

The Jets have one quality win. They beat a very good Colts team when Sanchez played mistake free, they ran the ball well, and the D was stout.

And the Colts on the road are almost a 180 of the Colts at home.

Their only home loss was when Cecil Shorts caught and ran for an 80 yard score with a minute left.

Sure, the Jets don't exactly have many sexy wins, but look at the schedules of some of the top teams. Every team has cupcakes, Denver, New England, Atlanta, San Francisco. Those teams are certainly more talented than the Jets, a team really without any playmakers. The Jets have beat teams who are more talented than them.

What is the main reason the Jets are winning games?

Pretty simple, really.

They're playing really sh!tty opponents.

1. Weak opponents.

2. Squeaking by.

3. D-Line and Pass-D playing decently well.

4. Becoming a 1-dimensional offense so that Sanchez has no opportunity to fumble/INT away the game as he is prone to do.

This week during warm-ups they will probably tell Sanchez to just practice handing the ball off.

He still had a lost fumble in a game where he was only asked to drop back and pass a handful of times.

We are winning because we benched sanchez in the arizona game, and rendered him useless in the jags game.

Hmmmm, I wonder if there is any correlation to that and winning games in the NFF?

The colts are terrible. They will lose by 30 to either the broncs or ravens in rnd 1 of the playoffs.

Stil at least we will be able to say the Jets beat a team with a winning record, and finally get the "Jets have not beaten a team with a winning record, since the Patriots in the 2010 playoffs" monkey off our back !!

try looking at all the powerhouse teams we have beaten and your answer will be evident.

2) We have played a number of truly terrible teams this year. A lot of people on here think we're a terrible team, but we're not. We're below-average. Our schedule is filled with teams that are either great, very good, or terrible. We don't play any other average to below-average teams, except for the Dolphins and Chargers.
This is a good assessment. Rex's D feasts on overwhelmed and/or young QBs, of which we've played a number of them this season. The list of QBs we've beaten are all either 1st or 2nd young players, or very shaky vets:

Fitzpatrick
Tannehill
Luck
Bradford
Lindley
Henne

Quite simply, QBs like the above will rarely beat a Rex D. The offense needs to melt down completely for us to lose those games, and while it certainly melts down sometimes (see 2nd Miami game), it's usually against the better teams, with which we're outmatched anyway.

Because the Cardinals and Jaguars' offenses were more inept than ours.

Simple equation. We win war in trenches=victory. We lose war in trenches =loss. Unfortunately we've lost the overall war in the trenches more than we've won them.

Reality is we have a good base of talent but huge gaping wholes on both ends that the smarter coaches can take advantage of. We have 2 OLB that wouldn't start on any other team. No QB. 2 RBs that are very one dimensional. No RT still. The only issue we really answered last off season was S. We have a strong OL, DL and DB though which is what keeps us in games as long as the O doesn't make too many errors.
