That Steelers Chargers game was probably the most bizarre finish ever to a football game.

Luckily I had money on San Diego.

It was actually called in 2001 in the Jets favor during the NE vs Jets game in week 2 of that same season. Nobody remembered it though or even thought about it until that playoff game.

Pretty obvious you're fishing.

Frankly, there are too many, way too many, people involved for any large scale fixing to be going on. Most people can't keep secrets and someone would've spilled it years ago by now.

That's what it ultimately comes down to. Eventually, someone is going to open their trap who was involved.... maybe they got passed over or just felt guilty. Scandals have a way of working their way to the surface eventually.

If I assume it's going on, I also assume we'll know about it eventually.

Didn't the Ravens get penalized 2 15 yarders against the Pats* on one play in Baltimore the year the Pats went 16-0, I mean 18-1?

That game really seemed like one the NFL wanted NE to win.

Then Rex was in on the fix because the Ravens stopped Brady on that 4th down play but bonehead had called a time out....

How about the Brady "fumble" against the Raiders?

That and the fact that all NFL teams illegally film teams plays, formations, etc.

But Jets fans will cry forever about the Patriots in this regard.

Oh well.

All sports are flawed but if you look at what a "fix" in the NFL might look like, it's pretty tough to see it done.

1) If it were a league mandated fix, a lot of people would be involved and refs, coaches, and officials would be involved...not likely to happen

2) If it were team driven, you would have to get coaches and some key players involved like the quarterback, running backs, an maybe cornerbacks on defense.... tough one to keep secret forever because players move on and eventually, someone is going to be pissed about moving on.

3) If it were player driven, what would it look like? In football, it would have to be someone like the qb or running back on offense who would fumble or through interceptions and on defense, it would most likely be a cornerback who "blows his coverage over and over" but that still has some risk because the receiver and qb have to connect.

#3 is the only one in football I can see happening...someone shaving points for instance. So, what would it look like? It would look like incompetence so I guess what you need to look for is someone who keeps fumbling over to the other team or throwing interceptions that often result in 6 points or great field position. Does anyone know anyone like that (lol) ?????

(BTW, I'm just having fun with the article, not serious )

How about the Pitt vs Colts playoff game a few years ago. Interceptions overturned, penalties. Seemed like everything that could be done was being done to help the Colts win.

Actually, that's not quite true. All teams are REQUIRED to film all plays of all games, showing down and distance before each play. They are just restricted to WHERE they can place the cameras, and that can't be on the sidelines, which is the only rule the Patriots violated.

That said, the article's a crock of tin foil lined sh!t. As Ches stated, too many people involved to keep such a thing quiet. I'll add that there are also too many disgruntled ex-players and personnel to do so as well.

The author is a borderline "9/11 was an inside job" type of kook.

Apply logic to his overall premise. The author scoffs at those believing in random coincidences yet the biggest coincidence is that no NFL official, referee or conspirator in the history of the game has EVER leaked out that a game was fixed. Think of it...no deathbed confessions, no disgruntled ex- officials/conspirators wishing to expose the scam?

To implement and maintain such a fix it scam over the course of a single season would require the active involvement of dozens in a game overseen by hundreds and viewed by millions. The author insuates this highly organized scam has been going on for YEARS but again not a single person has ever broken the code of silence or even anoymously disclosed it's existence.

None of the 9/11 "inside job" conspirators have ever talked either...see the connection here? It defies logic.

BTW Kraft owns a casino? Which one? Thats's news to me.

Good point. And the guy who got 2 penalties against him? Bart Scott.

Quote:
The Patriots did not waste the call. On the next play, Brady passed to Jabar Gaffney in the back left corner of the end zone for an apparent touchdown. But did Gaffney have control of the ball as he went out of bounds? The replay was unclear, although the league said Gaffney’s hand never came off the ball, which would have indicated that he was not bobbling it.

In the end, the replay was too close to overturn the initial call.

In the meantime, Scott was called for unsportsmanlike conduct and was so infuriated by the call that he picked up the official’s yellow flag and hurled it into the stands. That meant another unsportsmanlike penalty. And will probably result in a fine.

“They called it a touchdown and he had bobbled it,” Scott said. “We outplayed them for 60 minutes. We made the play to end the game.”

Don't you know that facts cease to exist if they're ignored?

Rex is the ONLY reason that Pats won that game with that shockingly dumb timeout call. Yes, Rex blatantly conspired against his own team at the behest of shadowy NFL operatives in order to ensure the Pats victory.

Too bad David Tyree foiled that master plan...I'm surprised he wasn't given a lyme shower and buried in a shallow grave for his screw up.

I didn't get that part of the story. The game is 11-10 Steelers (So I assume it's still in regulation) and they score a TD making the score 17-10. The author then claims the teams left the field with the clock expired and went into the locker rooms. Wouldn't they have had to kick an extra point FIRST, even with no time left? And if they did, how does the play get reviewed? Story makes no sense.

Do you know when this game was? I'd love to look it up.

edit: never mind...Found it: http://scores.espn.go.com/nfl/recap?gameId=281116023

This thread is so insane.

Do humans make some calls?? sure

Do humans make some favorable calls?? sure

Is there some cheating going on?? sure

Is the NFL the most complex scam in the history of the world?? not a chance, and not a CHANCE because it's just logically impossible to remove that element of chance from the complex real-life system that the NFL is. You'd have to have so much control that the product would end up being as obviously fake as WWE.

Can you tell the difference between WWE and UFC? So forget the red-pill, blue-pill nonsense; the article author is like the dude in INCEPTION who can't actually tell what is real from his own fantasy. As Barkley would say: 'Tuurrrible'.

And after that, Rex and Scott ended up on the Jets

(hmm, coincidence or payback????? )

Maybe the NFL promised Rex and Scott the next dynasty (Jets) as a reward for keeping the streak going

This author might be onto something
