playoff machine

http://espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs/machine

Nice tool to try and figure stuff out.

If found it interesting that if the Colts lose out, and Cincy beats Pitt then loses to Balt, ..... the Jets are the 5th seed and the Colts the 6th seed.

Then I changed the Colts loss to KC to a win, and the Jets AND Colts still made the playoffs with their seeds reversed. Go figure.

Then I noticed that even if the Steelers beat the Bengals, the Jets still make it if the Colts lose to KC and the Bengals lose to Balt.

My brain hurts.

If that happens they Jets can still make the playoffs if a black hole swallows the entire city of Indianapolis.

Just trying to give people a reliable source to satisfy their curiosity of what "could be" before we face another long off-season of figuring out what "should be" before the Jets disappoint us once again with what "will be".

A black hole should swallow the entire city of Indianapolis regardless.

Assuming of course, that the Jets win out.
Can someone confirm this?

I don't think so. Possibly if the Ravens lose next weekend. At this point, lets just worry about winning tomorrow night, otherwise nothing else matters.

If the Bengals beat the Steelers the jets would still need the Bengals to lose in week 17 to the Ravens.

There is absolutely no scenario that the jets would control their own destiny. In week 17 they will need one of three teams to lose to get into the playoffs.
1) Bengals lose to Ravens OR 2) Steelers lose to Browns or 3) Indy loses to Houston

basically we need to win out and have both Cincy and Pitt each lose 1 of their last 2 games

alternatively, if the Colts lose both their games and we win both we're in no matter what Pitt and Cincy do
