Mike Pettine wont return next year
Manish Mehta @MMehtaNYDN
Jets defensive coordinator Mike Pettine has turned down a contract extension, per source. Not signed after end of this season. #nyj |

He does nothing, why do they need him. When he calls the D, the D sucks. This is what is wrong with this entire team. Rex likes you and you get paid, regardless of your production or lack of. This may be a sign that they are changing from this mindset. Rex really needs to wake up.

How is Pettine "turning down" a contract extension a sign of Rex losing his job? The turning down part implies the Jets offered him an extension. If they had any thoughts of changing their HC they wouldn't offer his hand picked defensive coordinator an extension. I think this is a sign they plan on bringing back Rex.

every team loses coaches. look at the patsies last season. their oc accepted the nd job before the superbowl was played. it had to have some effect. pettine is due for a scenery change just like thurman or sutton or cavanaugh or anyone else on that staff. it'll be interesting to see if he gets a higher profile coaching job.

How the hell can you say that? And what do you mean call the D? When Mike calls the sets, they lose and when Rex calls the sets they win. |

Wow... This is shocking. He has to have a job lined up. Probably in college.
Dennis Thurman will absolutely be the main guy. |

It'll be internal.
This is Rex's defense. He wants someone like Pettine who knows his D and his style, and can translate it to the players. Rex is still going to call the sets on D. Edit: At least, that's what I'm hoping for. Practically speaking, the only thing that doesn't need much changing is the defense. Hopefully Sparano has already been put on notice. |
