Gamble has a solid track record. The Niners have become one of the best teams in the NFL under his watch at least in part because of solid free agent additions such as Carlos Rogers, Donte Whitner, and Jonathan Goodwin. I happen to think the success is due much more to the incredible coaching of Jim Harbaugh and Harbaugh's staff., but Gamble has been part of a well-run organization.

Gamble has a lot of experience in the NFL, which means he has a long list of quality people he knows and could bring in. He also has been involved in more aspects of running a team than many first time general managers do. I'm not really sure he'd be a homerun hire, but he is qualified to be a general manager. I wouldn't be thrilled if he was hired, but I wouldn't be upset either.

Even though the Bucs are struggling now, there's still a strong base to build around.

Will Lewis, Seahawks director of pro personnel: Lewis is another ex-Packer personnel man. He went with Ted Thompson to Seattle in 2000 and carries a pretty complete résumé. He's regarded as a solid evaluator and hard worker with leadership potential. He also brings experience as an NFL player and a coach. The Seahawks' continued improvement will only help his cause.

Seattle's interim GM before John Schneider was hired, Webster was part of that the past two years, and part of Tampa Bay's late-1990s/early-2000s rebuilding, and has a wealth of pro and college scouting experience.

Doug Whaley, Bills assistant general manager: Whaley is considered the future in Buffalo, working now at the side of Buddy Nix. The roster has improved greatly of late, despite the team's recent swoon, due to Nix and Whaley's ability to turn over every rock to find talent. Just as important, Whaley was raised in the Steeler system, so he has strong knowledge of what a championship team looks like.

If the Jets go near Caserio, Whaley, Gaine or Snead, I am done with this team. This is not rocket science. Look at Pitt, NYG, GB, Baltimore and yes, Seattle -- the hawks have done a terrific job in the draft the past few years.

why a retread like Polian whose best days are past him. why not a young up-and-coming football mind who has enjoyed success in today's NFL environment -- not Polian from the late 80s Bills. Again, Polian was fired in Indy because without Manning the talent on the team was so insufficient. Why bring that to NY?

=o GM that you want running your football team, like Houston’s Director of College Scouting Mike Maccagnan, who has been approached is going to have any interest in this type of power sharing arrangement. As our source has stated all season, Woody and Tannenbaum have a close working relationship and no GM who will want Tannnbaum looking over his shoulder on every move.

Why can’t this organization just flat out fire anybody? Former GM Terry Bradway was just demoted into scouting after an awful tenure, where he could continue to hurt the Jets with his poor personnel decisions. Former Defensive Coordinator Bob Sutton, who was awful at his job was only demoted to linebackers coach. Current quarterback coach Matt Cavanaugh stil hasn’t been fired for some ungodly reason. You need to fire ineffective people. Get them completely out of the building.

The Jets are a disaster right now. Woody Johnson can’t be that blind not to see that. The solution is simple. Fire Mike Tannenbaum. Fire Terry Bradway. Fire Tony Sparano. Fire Matt Cavanaugh. Allow the newly hired GM to make the decision on Rex Ryan and go from there.

please stop already. A disaster is 1-15; 3-13. The jets are far from that. A few changes will right the ship real fast. Although, i agree with you that some decision makers need to be fired asap -- TS, MC, Bradway, Sutton, etc. If the new GM thinks Tanny should be fired, so be it. I am against firing Rex. It is not warranted imo.

I don't think Rex should be fired, but he needs to be given an ultimatum that whoever comes in as the OC is allowed to play aggressive football and not be coerced into the ground & pound BS that Rex longs for. To me this is the biggest sin of this Jets regime , they're pandering to an idea that's counter productive to today's NFL rules.

Rex would rather win with defense then to have a team that averages 30 pts /gm on offense. He needs to wake up and understand that it can work both ways. Early last year he was pissed at Shotty for allowing the O to throw too much, Hey Rex wake up that's how you win the NFL today. You can agrue that they don't have the talent on O to play that way , and its true when the coach & GM basically neglect that side of the team.

I agree with you 100%. However, let me add that we need to bring in a true offensive-minded coach from a staff like NO or GB, not frauds like NE. History has enough examples of failures from the NE tree; that organization's perceived success is due to two factors -- Tammy and Spygate.

did someone actually say tanny should get another year? lol... better question is who wants this job anyone? after woody has already turning off 90% of potentials by saying he would like to keep tanny as a cap guy, nobody thats good will want to work for woody Johnson.. He needs to sell.. but we need a offensive minded GM..Rex has done great with the D, getting the right players, drafting D guys is Rex. Mo Wilk is looking like a great pick b Rex now, so is Coples.. Look what happens when we draft offense.. terrible picks, outside of kerley.. Sure thats MT, but whoever else has had his ear on O drafting needs to go too.
