Moving the goalposts?

Retained at the discretion of the new GM is not what we were discussing.

Care to elaborate on that?

Who's talking about retaining HC's? We're talking about retaining and demoting a GM.

LOL

Comical, and sad!

BOTTOM LINE:

IF WOODY IS BRINGING IN A NEW GM:

TANNENBAUM SHOULD BE FIRED!

THE NEW GM SHOULD DETERMINE WHETHER OR NOT TO KEEP REX.

NO PRE-CONDITIONS!

If a GM wants to retain Rex, that is fine. It should, however, be his choice, not forced on him.

All of you are b*tching for no good reason.

If all of the parties agree with the arrangement, then why the f*ck would it matter to anyone else? You don't have to work there, so STFU. Let the people that agreed to work like that deal with it.

And the biggest thing that's being overlooked here?

It COULD work. Not saying it would. In fact, it probably wouldn't. But it could.

So where it doesn't impact you at your work. Deal with it. Woody Johnson is going to run HIS organization the way he chooses. And considering he's had much more business than anyone here, I'll take his word for it long before I'd accept what you think the team should do.

Because you can always find someone who wants a GM positon to agree with pre-conditions.
BUT IF YOU WANT THE MOST QUALIFIED CANDIDATE, NO PRE-CONDITIONS!!!

Completely agree. But then why is everyone b*tching that Rex Ryan should be fired?

What is it? They don't trust the new GM (that hasn't even been hired yet) to do his job?

There's way too many tightly wrapped posters here.

Yeah. Be quiet. Don't have an opinion. Don't express your opinion on a message board designed to discuss fans opinions. Deal with it.

Unless, of course MainJet disagrees with an opinioin. Then it is OK to voice your opinion agreeing with MaineJet.

OK. Carry on.

Why? Because there is the feeling that Woody likes Rex and is going to retain him next year and tell any incoming GM that Rex is the coach. It's a pretty legit concern.

It's easy to be tightly wrapped when the team you cheer for often does exactly what you as a fan fear they are going to do.

Yes, we as fans should just accept everything that's decided because that's what we are. We're sheep.

Brilliant.

And Woody Johnson was handed a multi billion dollar business. He's a trust fund baby. There's so many owners in the NFL who could run circles around him in the business world.

Wouldn't be surprised if Ryan leaves on his own.

With a new GM coming in, and a team lacking in talent and cap space, why stick around? It's obviously early to make predictions for next year, but I wouldn't expect Jets to be a playoff team in 2013. If they're not, and have a second straight season with a losing record, Ryan would probably be fired then. Jets haven't gone three years without playoffs since '95-'97, don't see Ryan surviving 3 years in a row missing playoffs, and 2 years in a row of losing records (if that happens).

So Ryan may just decide he's had enough here, doesn't want to stick around with a new regime, and leave a la Herm. There's sure to be some other openings. I can see him going to Philly where Buddy coached, bring that Ryan attitude back there, Jets get a mid-round pick.

Not saying this is most likely scenario, but wouldn't be surprised.

But other than that, it is exactly the same. Kind of. Maybe.

Yeah, that's the ticket.
Not true at all kid. Paul Allen and his CEO Leiweke hired Ferguson and Ruskell.
Losing GM duties was a involuntary demotion because his drafts, at which he had no prior experience, yielded few starters.

Well if woody keeps tanny here.. Or if Woody keeps tanny there, or Woody reassigns Tanny. Woody this, Woody that... Tanny has a CHOICE too, he might not want to be reassigned within the organization. People do move on to other opportunities.
