In 2009, the Chicago Blackhawks hired a new GM and reassigned their former GM Talon. In the 2009-2010 season the Blackhawks won the Cup. The Blackhawks are one of the most respected franchises in Hockey.

Anymore SOJF's think good organizations don't do this?

There's NO reason to delay the process. Start Geno Smith.

Haha. Hysterical. It's the Jets M.O. to keep under qualified GM's in house. First Bradway, now Tannenbaum. Still keeping Rex, yet probably want a highly qualified personnel man. Good luck!

While I'd prefer Clinkscales over Tanny ... That smells like a PR puppet move.

You've now posted a baseball example from decades ago and one NHL example, a league that's a total crap shoot come playoff time with more than half the league making the post-season. Any recent NFL examples? Thanks.

Recent NFL example? The Jets reassigned Bradway and made it to two AFC Champioship games. Either way, you haven't established a basis for your theory that the operation of a football franchise is significantly different than the operation of a baseball or hockey franchise. If a GM of a baseball team is reassigned to handle scouting and has to answer to the GM, the same dynamic exists.

You and the other SOJF just want Mr. T fired because you want your pound of flesh.

LOL. SOJF? Really? Okay, Mr. Sunshine and Rainbows. Let me know when this or any other organization wins a Super Bowl by doing what we've been doing and failed to even reach a Super Bowl closing in on 45 years.

That's ridiculous. Everybody who works in the NFL is fully aware that it's a tough business. Anyone would recognize the need to make a change, and wouldn't think twice if Tannenbaum was shown the door entirely.

Tannenbaum is the fall guy and deservedly so. Now Hopefully we get a football guy who knows how to get gems from the college ranks.

when you call someone the 'fall guy' it implies that he's not really responsible for the failure, and he's merely being blamed to protect others. but in this instance, tannenbaum actually is to blame for a lot of the team's failures.

It was a big promotion for Tanny within the organization. Of course he was going to jump at it.

the jets may be the only team in professional sports history to have 2 former gms of the team on the staff while a 3rd guy is the current gm. if i got a job with the team and stuck it out long enough i may get my shot too.

And it was also pointed out that this is football, not baseball. This happens far less frequently in the NFL than it does in MLB.

And Gene Michael was a good peronnel man, coached and played the game. He had more to offer the organization. There are plenty of people now who can duplicate what Tanny is qualified for.

WRONG.

The key is who makes the personnel decisions, which will be the new GM.

Why are all of you guys fighting THIS concept?

I think this sentence (by Sooth, above) is going to be 100% correct.
Why cant MT go back to being our Cap guy?
Thats what he is best suited for.
He was good at it!

Why cant that be a separate job from GM?
In todays salary cap driven NFL, why wouldnt we want an expert/specialist handling this all-important facet (full-time) within the Jets organization?

Tallon was doing a nice job building the team The Hawks finished with 104 points the season before he was demoted. He was demoted because he fell asleep at the wheel in presenting offers to the team's RFA's and almost cost them valued players.

Tallon bright in all the talent that won the cup and he left for FL when a GM opening developed

I wouldn't say they are one of the most respected franchises in hockey. Original 6, yes but they have done alot of stupid things with Pulford and old man Wirtz.

It took the old man dying to get them broadcasting home games on TV

And all you ever do is make excuses for this team and come up with poor analogies in defending the decisions of what is one of the most dysfunctional franchises in sports. Tit for tat.
