Giants backing in?

IF the Giants defeat the Eagles, they would also need Detroit to beat Chicago, Green Bay to beat Minnesota and Washington to beat Dallas to claim a wild card. If all falls into place and they actually get into a wild card game will the NY media call them out and say they backed into the playoffs?

Yes! isn't that what the media does when you don't win all your games?

No, backing in is when you lose the game, but get in anyway... Like when we needed to best the Rams to make it, but Buffalo lost to Steelers backups and we backed in.

They had a 2.5 game division lead 3 weeks ago. Is it really backing in if you were out to a commanding 6-2 start and fumbled it away?

No, they'll crown them SB champs because of how the system works. It's very unlikely and I'd be enraged if they made it but thankfully the Seahawks look to be that red-hot team this year the Vagiants were last year and the Pack was the year before.

Personally, I think "backing in" is any time you didn't control your own destiny and made it in via unimpressive means.

Either way, they won the Superbowl last year so it's not as if they aren't worthy of getting a pass. That said, I look forward to them sitting home in January with us.

Not for nothing but we were in the playoffs going into OT of that game..

It was already known the Jets were in the playoffs when that game went into overtime..

This is why we attempted a ridiculous irresponsible FG attempt in OT of that game which we would not have done had Buffalo won..

So I never considered that as backing in..

What happened in 1986.. That was backing in..

There's NO reason to delay the process. Start Geno Smith.

Because there's a prettier girl in the room. You know how females are around each other, anyway.

It was just a thought, David Diehl got a DUI and no one was calling for his suspension like they were doing to Edwards. Seems like the giants get a huge pass on stuff like that. So they are SB champs but seems they won't make the playoffs so the media will give them a pass and not mention their implosion?

That is correct. Though, you have to consider that their HC hasn't brought a ton of attention and scrutiny on the franchise like ours has. When these things happen to the Giants, it's viewed as an aberration rather than their true colors. Until our organization acts with poise and class, the double-standard will continue.

it seems as if so many (fans, media, etc.) have already written off the Giants. But their path to the playoffs is far from impossible despite needing a lot of things to happen. They can certainly beat the Eagles and I can definitely see the Vikings, Cowboys and Bears all losing. The Packers are locked in, the Redskins have everything to play for and you really can't trust the Bears at all. And if all that happens and the Giants do get in? Oh boy, a massive lovefest will follow. Eli will be back to being elite, Coughlin will once again be praised for his ability to "coach 'em up" when he has to. And I am sure the they will make a run and meet the pats in the super bowl. Just has that kind of feeling this season ... again.

I remember one year the Eagles had the same scenario with maybe? one less team having to win they did their part in a late game at home against Dallas, they beat the living Sh*t out of them and everything else took place it was great another highlight less the SB.
