On the Browns search for a coach: Told there are already 4 candidates, 2 college, 2 pro. Aaron Kromer is one of the pro coaches.

And the Browns are expected to be in the Chip Kelly sweepstakes, which kick off in earnest after Thursday's Fiesta Bowl.

Typical Jets BS. Can never do things the right way, hence the reason we never have a legit front office run by real NFL minds.

No real GM is coming here with Woody already telling him that the coach is in place.

The cycle continues!!

Spin it anyway you want, anyone who knows sports, knows this is BS.

We now know what happens here. No matter who the GM is, next year this team is going to stink. 6 wins tops, most likely less. So Rex will be fired anyways after next season. So why not just start the process now and let the GM do what GM's are supposed to do and form his own staff. Rex basically has one year left and keeping him next season just sets us another year back.

Two good names on Jets GM search who have worked there, understand the market -- San Francisco's Tom Gamble and Miami's Brian Gaine.

Jags have done a good job keeping info tight, but 2 names I hear they like as GM candidates - Tom Gamble (SF) and Alonzo Highsmith (GB)

I think Gamble is a real option... He has basically all the pieces a GM needs (including contract negotiations)...

Looks like we will not be getting a top candidate unless by some miracle they like Rex and want to give him another year.

My biggest fear is that keeping Rex means keeping Sanchez. Looks like Tanny and Shades will be the scapegoats.

Re SF director of player pers Tom Gamble: I named him on NBC as prime Jag GM candidate, but I don't believe he'd have Tebow foisted on him.
Good, come to the Jets where you can give away Tebow

There is an article floating around on the board about how respected Gamble is in league circles, he would be a real coup for the team.

There is zero urgency to fire Rex. We had to fire Tanenbaum first and bring in a new GM and then deal with Rex after. Its the smart way of doing things as opposed to the fans shoot first and act questions later approach.

What if the new GM wants to keep Rex and Woody pre-emptively fired him?

Granted, there are circumstances where an owner would be justified in canning the head coach along with the GM, but Rex is still a master at defense and did go to two AFC championship games. Its not like he came here and we went 4-12 every year.

How do you know Woody wouldn't allow the new GM to fire Rex?

There are going to be a handful of teams needing GM's. Gamble is one of the hot guys and will be sought after by many. He's not coming to NY where the owner just announced that Rex is coming back. The ttop GM candiates will be able to go to a team and have full control. In NY we don't offer that.

Obvioulsy anythings possible but reality is, we're going to have to settle for a name that's not very well known or take a chance on someone like we've done with our head coaches since Woody was owner.

It's not happening. Rex is coming back in 2013. He's staying and Woody has made that loud and clear. We knew this for weeks.

True.

But what if there are some guys who wont even take an interview bc Rex is here.

Woody just said Rex will be back so I think keeping Rex IS a prerequisite for the new GM.

Maybe someone gets in his ear and he changes his mind. Never say never. But I doubt it and I believe Rex is coming back. He has $6MM reasons why.

The Browns and Eagles will both pursue Chip Kelly aggressively. Eagles also high on Jay Gruden. Both like Bill O'Brien as well ...

Was told that a search firm was hired by 3 teams over a month ago to find GMs, and CLE & CAR weren't among the teams. Some homework's done.

With Browns and Eagles having similar coaching targets, many intrigued to see ex-Eagles pres Joe Banner, now in CLE, jostle vs. old team

Someone posted this in another thread but what GM wouldn't want a free pass for a year or two? That's exactly what they'll get if Rex stays on board... Team could go 1-15 next year and it wouldn't be his fault.
