Woody removes one testicle from new GM before search begins
It's not a matter of should Rex stay or go. It's a matter of empowering your new General Manager to make the most important decisions. Woody has already removed a testicle from whoever the new GM will be. Just like Schott was forced up Rex's ass, now Rex is being forced up the new GM's ass. This is sheer lunacy on the part of this terrible, terrible owner.

So is every other player on the team. The new GM is Rex's boss, you can't always pick your employees when starting a new job, you have to survey and then make decisions on who needs to stay and go and this usually takes some time.

I have no doubt that should a great GM Candidate exist, and be hired, and NOT want Rex, that GM would be given permission by Woody to fire Rex.
Just because Woody says Rex isn't going right now, doesn't mean thats all she wrote. New GM hired changes everything, and Woody can always say "well, my great new GM wanted to go in another direction". Tanny gone/Rex staying also lays squarely the blame for the Sanchez pick (worst QB in last 4 years) and Tebow aquisition on Tannenbaum. Best of luck to him in his next job (cause he will get another GM job IMO). |

I believe Mehta's article states that Woody declared Rex is staying. That implies strongly that the new GM must accept Rex for at least one year. Sorry, but that's absolutely the wrong way to search for a GM. Woody is narrowing the field of candidates by doing it this way. Big mistake.

Woody doesn't want to blow up the team and start from scratch. I don't blame him. He wants anew GM to keep Rex and his Defense and build a team around that.
Look at Indy last year. They got a QB and a bunch of new players and are in the playoffs. We can get rid of the rust and start building again next year. |

Dcat you are absolutely correct. Our team is just cursed by having such horrible ownership.

Ryan will need to adapt, and a Strong GM could help Ryan turn the flywheel on that. Ryan needs pressure applied to him, rules and discipline. He then needs to in turn transmit that pressure and discipline down to his team. The team is loose around the edge and orbiting off kilter around a drunk center. |

rex to defensive coordinator or he hires an offensive coordinator capable of replacing rex during the season if he falters again as head coach.

Didn't McGinley start a nice central thread for real black monday information and discussion?
Why are 42 additional threads needed? Dump |

Don't put so much stock in what people say. Sure he could have left Rex flailing in the wind until there's a new GM....not Woody's style though. I'm fairly sure Rex is here next year, but as Fish says, if the Jets dream GM shows up and has a solid plan for going forward that doesn't include Rex, I have no doubt that Woody, et al (whoever et al is) would be listening. I still like Rex and have no problem with him being here next year. I'm guessing you don't feel that way. But, whether you want him here and whether you think his presence will hamper a GM search are two separate things. Having Mangini present in Cleveland didn't dissuade Holmgren from coming there and he's as big a name as it gets. |

The other thing that tannebaum should be debited for is the fact of drafting sanchez - a super raw QB - and pairing him w a defensive minded HC trying to build a great defense. Look at Eli. The giants built Eli. The Jets built a defense. |
