Yes, they have Andrew Luck so it is unlikely that we will be 11-5 next year, but the Jets need to embrace this philosophy to build the team back up as quickly as possible.

The Jets need to clear house, regardless of the cap hits, like the Colts did, and right the ship for 2014 and after.

They need to:

Cut Sanchez (June 1)

Cut Scott

Cut both Smiths

Cut DeVito

Cut Pouha

Cut Calvin Pace

Cut B Thomas

Cut Keller

Consider cutting Holmes

Consider trading Revis

We will be a very young team in 2013, and probably struggle. But the cancers need to be cut (Sanchez and Holmes) and we need to absorb as much cap pain in 2013 as possible so we are prepared for the future. Stockpile picks and start developing this team organically.
It's not a "Yes, but." They have Andrew Luck. And the rest of the team is frankly terrible.

Keller is interesting. I don't know what his value is to other teams. Same with Sione Pouha.
Keller does not have a huge contract-- so it may be possible to keep him. Its really odd, tho, how his injuries kept him out nearly all year. I think it all depends on his medical appraisal. Without Revis and Landry , the Def. would slide a lot--- so we have to figure a way to keep them.

We did not have Revis this year and the pass defense was fine. Landry is harder to replace, he played well.

I agree with all of those cuts.

This year will be a tough one but necessary to move forward.

And Holmes must be cut as well. I'm fine with Edwards Hill Kerley and a rookie as the top 4 next year. Keller stinks anyway. Cumberland is not much of a drop off.

Keep Revis.

Cro is the player to trade if anyone. He has never had more value as a trade chip and he makes alot of money. I'm not a QB evaluator but Cro for Cousins might be a trade to consider. Washington needs secondary help and we need a cheap QB with potential to try out.

Trading Cro adds 8 million to next seasons cap. I'd love to keep him, Revis and Wilson together and have the superunit secondary but that amount of money spent on the secondary hurts the O.

The draft remains a crapshoot this season so why not. Revis should be resigned long term. He is a leader on the team and the top of the NFL at his position.

Devito had a great year and is a free agent. I would try to resign him. If we can't resign Devito we might want to keep Pouha until Ellis can show that he can play an entire season without injury.

Thomas makes the vet minimum, can't hurt to bring him to camp and see if he has anything left.

Holmes is tricky because we only save about $1 mil by cutting him. It might benefit the development of our QBs to keep him for a year.

I don't think we could afford DeVito in free agency but would not at be opposed to him coming back.

In terms of Holmes I think he is a cancer and would want him away from whatever QB we are developing next year.

Is there a way that the Jets could cut Adam Slimeball Schein from their coverage on SNY?

Six players who are having major roles in their first season. As a comparison we only got Coples, Stephen Hill and Demario of whom basically none was a starter in his first year.

And not too mention, Indy was lucky to have the record they had this year. Lots of close wins against a weak schedule.
Jerrell Freeman came right from the CFL.

Schein is the worst.I'm sick of him and his no nothing off the wall comments regarding the Jets. SNY needs to kick him to the curb. Klecko, Custer and Ray Ray are a great team. maybe they can add Wesley Walker next year, or another ex Jet player to keep it real.

The Colts also had arguably the best draft this year, highlighted by one of the best QB prospects to come out this generation.....

Can we have a similar draft next season?

Cool

What's really embarrassing about this team are some of the fans and the media that covers it. Can we all be sane for a minute? Let's consider the team's options for this off-season.

SANCHEZ: Cutting him counts for $12-17 million (not sure which is correct). Keeping him counts for $8.25. It's very likely that he stays on here. That doesn't mean that Rex is loyal to him or that he's going to start. He can be a 3rd stringer or even be kept inactive (maybe practice squad?) Why pay a guy over $8 million so he can sit on his ass ans do nothing? Make Mark sit and deal with his failure. If he is any kind competitor, he'll work out something to make it easier for the Jets to cut him or deal him so he can get a chance somewhere else. Or, the new OC lets him compete in a open competition during training camp. Either way, he is most likely here next year.

HOLMES: Can someone point out where Santonio was a cancer this year? Forget 2011, I'm talking about this year? Yeah, I thought so. Look, Holmes is coming off a foot injury so trading him in the off season is next to impossible. Who wants a receiver coming off a foot injury? Holmes was playing pretty well before he got hurt. Yes he is overpaid, but he can be productive as well. If you're paying him, might as well use him, especially if the Jets can get a better QB. Maybe someone trades for him during the season if he has shown no ill effects from the injury, but this is another case where you can expect this player back.

KELLER: He is not gonna command large money. He's another productive guy. Not a Gronk or Vernon Davis type but solid overall. Offer him a 4 year $10 million deal with a reasonable signing bonus. Otherwise that becomes another position we have to waste a draft pick on or overpay in FA. Keller has looked decent with Sanchez throwing to him, imagine what he can do with a better QB.

REVIS: You don't trade HOF caliber players unless you're getting something comparable in return. Case closed. Belichick probably wins another SB if he keeps Richard Seymour. The 1989 Rams maybe get to the SB if they still had Dickerson. Stop saying we don't need Revis. Unless you're trading him for a legit franchise QB, you keep him and re-sign him. Besides, like Holmes, he is coming off an injury and no one will want to take him on without seeing if he comes back to the same level.

This isn't Madden, guys. We have to keep a realistic viewpoint on what's coming up. BTW stop saying that the Jets are gonna suck next year, or that it's gonna take years to rebuild. Teams turn it around in one year all the time now. No reason to think the Jets can't do the same.

Pretty much disagree with every one of your points. It is tired, old thinking.

Sanchez needs to be gone, not 2nd or 3rd string. Players need to now that performance talks, and couple that without awarding endless annuities to veteran players to kite cap space. The Jets will be a better team thinking of themselves as having $112 million cap next year and no Sanchez then $120 with him as a cancerous backup. June 1 cut allows the $12 million to be spread 8/4

Keller is not worth 4 years 10 million, but someone is likely to pay him more than that because of the Jets QB circus. Just cut bait.

We showed THIS YEAR that the defense does not need Revis to be effective. Signing him pretty much says that you will be spending 12-15% of the cap on a CB. A single CB. And as much as 30% on the CB corps. It's nuts, the position is just not that valuable. Keep Cro and trade Revis.

Holmes was not a cancer this year because he is cooling his jets in a hot tub some where. If you make the assumption we have a new QB next year, Santonio needs to be no where near him.

Why exactly is he a slimeball, exactly?

He doesn't say anything more outrageous than you can find on this board almost every single day, in every single thread.
