Just because Tannenbum screwed the pooch, doesn't mean those under him are equally as bad. For all we know, he may have made great recommendations that were all ignored. This is where Korn/Ferry needs to earn their money. Maybe we have a real diamond that we're all ignoring. Hell, Woody didn't need Korn/Ferry to come up with Gamble, Caldwell or Ross. All he had to do was see who everyone else was interviewing. Not saying Cohen is anything special, but who knows? Doesn't hurt to talk to the guy. I just hope that Woody has someone competent sitting in on the interviews with him.

or theyre doing their due diligence.

At the very least, you can pick a guys brain who experienced all the bad decisions and see what he would have done differently.

Not true. If you are looking at this for 2013 only, sure. But these guys will get a 4-5 year contract.

They bite the bullet in '13 (and no doubt express that to Woody) clean up the cap (and crap in their eyes) and then start the rebuilding.

I heard that the Jets DID get permission to interview Gamble but I am unsure of the others.

EDIT: "The GM search commenced immediately. The Jets requested and received permission to with speak with at least two candidates -- Tom Gamble, the San Francisco 49ers' director of player personnel, and Marc Ross, the New York Giants' director of college scouting."

Think about it. Rex's contract is up, you can move Sanchez out as well as other players to leave a ton of cap space. If they suck next year (which a lot of people think they will) they will have another high draft pick to get talent.

See the media and a lot of people aren't looking ahead to after next year. They are only looking at the situation next year.

Rex will still have a yr on his contract but he'll either get an extension or canned (that will be part of the agreement between Woody and the new GM) and he doesn't resign or get a buyout by then.

Your opinion,

There aren't any quotes stating that these individuals would not like to interview for the Jets GM positon.

Yep. And Rex knows it too. So it's still possible a buyout might develop.

No. I am just having a little fun.

But it isn't too far fetched. Is it?

If the upper tier candidates don't fancy the situation here (with Rex being retained), I believe hiring Cohen could be a real possibility.

To which, we'd all should light ourselves on fire if that happens.

They've gotten permission to interview everyone on their list so far.

Per a Fox Sports report, the Jets have requested and received permission from the Falcons to interview director of player personnel Dave Caldwell for general manager.

Joking or not you might be right. This franchise is a mess by Woody keeping Rex around that could scare away potential GMs. Keeping Rex tells a Potential GM that they do not have full control. Most Gms want to bring in their guy not be forced to accept theowners conditions. Ithink keeping Rex around combined with the cap mess the NY media the circus enviroment will scare away many good GMs even Polian told Woody thanks but no thanks. Dont be surprised if this guy isnt announced by friday to be the new GM.All these candidates might have already told Woody thanks but no thanks.

The whole notion that GM's will not want to come here because Rex is still here is overrated! We are not the only team in the GM market with an HC already in place. Cleveland wants to hire their HC BEFORE hiring a GM.

The key here is that the GM needs to be able to decide Rex's fate. Even if he has to keep Rex for next season, he should have the power fire Rex if he feels he does not fit his vision for the Jets after watching him for a season.
