Jason Newsted, Former Metallica, Former Sellout, New "Metal" EP Forthcoming

"Metal" as in the title of the EP.

Sings and plays bass it appears. Guess he gave up playing Guitar (he played it in his last seen band incarnation).

First Single (or first fully released song at least) below:

So I ask my metal-fan friends.....thoughts?

Decent? ****? Has Been Never Will Be Should Give it up? Or good for him?

Should send Lemmy a royalty check for ripping off the riff from "Ace of Spades". IMO, derivative twaddle.

I say good for him. He has always gone his own way, and is into a totally different scene than his Metallica counterparts, who crapped on him constantly.

The song, sounds pretty good, kind of has that Voivod feel, remeber when he played with them?

+1

That crap is fine for a local amateur metal band's original set, but not coming from a guy with his background. Lazy and uninspired writing.

Decent and good for him.

He shouldn't "give it up" if that's what he enjoys doing.

Not a ringing endorsement.

No.

But I wouldn't buy anything "new" from bands 20+ years old as is...or their artists. I prefer to listen to newer stuff.

I feel as if I should be somehow compensated for hearing it.

I will be eying my mailbox tomorrow for a certified check made out to the tune of .06.

I just gave it a second listen. As you pointed out earlier, the song sounds very amateurish.

I will.

To support a muscian I like, if nothing else.

But I agree, it's not great and it is derrivative. I vaguely like it, but thats about it.

Guess I think of it as an investment in an underdog who I hope can one day produce.

Newsted = Patrick Ramsey.

(I seem to be using that gif alot lately).

Back when I went to lots of shows...

1996 Dec 30th; the Cow Palace is the biggest dump on earth; show just rocked like crazy.

Now here's their show 1.5 years later; Newstead played "Brick House" in his bass doodle (see set list below). I loved it and it broke up the monotony of the emphasis of the first few albums that show. They didn't like getting ripped in the press for "Load" so they went back to the muscle days. We fled with our eardrums intact; probably at midshow. But I saw Newstead and I thought he was going to take that other band somewhere.

I thought of calling Child Protective Services while watching some "dads" with their sons. Then I thought "well, someone has to buy all those black t-shirts", and blissfully went back to my margarita.

Why is he a sellout?

I thought he left Metallica because he didn't like the fact they were going softer after the Black Album?

yea i dunno if he is a "sellout" .....if anything, leaving a cake gig like metalica takes some set of balls.

anyways, the song is nothing special. it sounds very much like early 80's metal which is what jason was doing when he was 19 in flotsam and jetsom.

he did play a little with the greatest metal band that ever lived: voivod. so thats a good thing
