25th in total offense with Holmes and Braylon Edwards as their top 2 receivers

30th in total offense with Hill and Schillens as their top 2 receivers.

BTW, this year, the Rams under Schitty was 23rd in total offense.

Plus, Rex keeps incompetent coaches way past their expiration date. See schotty and cavanaugh. The problem is masked on D where Rex is the defacto D coordinator but he relies on Sutton ( a holdover from previous jet staffs) and Thurmon (brought over from Baltimore).

This, IMO, will be the main reason Rex is eventually fired. Coaches who can't groom young assistants have a short shelf life.
+1

In the immediate post-Mangini years Rex got away with this because we were a mostly veteran team that had success and was sitting at 8-3 the year before. Show up with players-coach bravado, act confidently, bring some guys from Baltimore, done.

But it's 2013, the Jets are a 2-3 year rebuilding project, and Rex Ryan could arguably be the worst head coach in the NFL for a team such as that. He's developed no player or coach, he is one-dimensional, and he sucked the life out of his young quarterback. He's young-player poison.

The problem with this team IMO, is a lack of talent. That Rex won 6 games with this offensive roster is a credit to him. That is why Woody changed the GM and not the HC, its a talent issue, not a coaching isssue.

The vast majority of the blame has to fall on Tannenbaum...

1) The O-line deterioration
2) The lack of consistency at WR
3) "Ground and Pound" without a legit threat at RB

This is why the team went from 11 wins to 6 in two years.

The personnel decisions since the end of the 2011 lockout have been terrible. The roster moves, particularly on the offensive side of the ball, have been very poor.

Making Santonio Holmes a captain. Furthering the downward spiral into a team with no leadership abilities. Proving we are a bunch of personalities whose results on the field equate the low character that dominates the locker room.

These alone would make an owner do a double take but I'm going to make an assumption that the whole QB thing this off season was the crux of getting fired especially if Wilson was vetoed by Mike. Not because he had a good season but not listening to his scouts.

gholston. making a really bad pick like that can set back part of the team for a long time. sanchez is close but mainly because they traded up to get him. at least sanchez looked like he might be okay for 2 seasons and played for nearly all of the games the team played. after that it was the decision to launch edwards and keep holmes (or at least not keep them both), letting cotchery walk and not getting players to rebuild the right side of the oline. miner points are not finding a superior running back.

It is not hyperbole to say that Sanchez was the Jets most important draft pick since Joe Namath. Sanchez was coachable coming out of USC. He wasn't a lazy ahole or injury prone, which is the qualities that usually undermine high 1st round QBs.

Sanchez had his warts, but all 1st round QBs do. The Jets job was to develop his strengths and minimize his weaknesses. The best course wouldve been to sign a placeholder veteran in 2009 and let Sanchez sit. Of course, being coached by a bona fide offensive coaching staff, rather than the abomination the Jets had in place.

The Jets committed professional malpractice in developing Sanchez. Not only did they have the wrong staff to develop him, they put him in a situation where he couldn't learn.

A popular argument here is that Sanchez had a great situation 2009 with a veteran team, strong D, and strong running game. The WR group was weak, but improved with Braylon acquisition. But in actuality this was a bad situation for a rookie QB with 16 collegiate starts. You can't tell a rookie QB "Don't screw up and we'll win it for you." The QB can't learn that way. He'll be too focused on trying to avoid mistakes rather than make them and learn from them.

Then we had the musical chairs at WR, the receiving corps changing every year and Sanchez couldn't gain the proper comfort level.

Sanchez sucks and and is ruined right now, but it didnt have to be that way. Say he sucked from the beginning all you want, but I strongly believe that any first round QB that is coachable and not injury prone can be developed into, at least, a solid starter under the proper coaching.

I think there is a lot to what you're saying. It's inexplicable that Cavanaught still has a job.

So many single, glaring opportunities to see that Rex is not competent in anything but calling a defensive game for 58 minutes.

The question I ask is after building a team to compete, what single move started the downfall that led us to the debacle we are witnessing today?

Sanchez... plain and simple... over valued, over paid.... he's a back-up QB at best....

If they had a healthy Holmes,Revis,Hill, Keller,Pouha, and had Brayon from day 1 the season would have had a different result IMO.
