Agreed, they both have a good scouting backgrounds, Gamble seems to have more experience and shares some history with Ryan

choices are good, it not like we are hearing about AJ Smith, Matt Millen, also not sure what happened to Piolli but he was hated in KC

Is Ross not with a team already that may give him a clue?? Where would a non minority go to learn that holds the same position as Ross? Or is it instinctive to some people of a certain race??

THat's a bit silly. I know I've gone on many interviews and you certainly pick things up each time, and even meeting with different people in different organizations is helpful, even if you don't get the job.

What's silly to me is thinking he wouldn't be just as ready as a white kid seeking the same job.. We are talking about intelligent candidates here that are college educated..

I think people are missing the boat on the Rooney Rule. There is nothing final until its final (even if there is a 'guy')...if a minority candidate comes in and blows the jets away in an interview...he could BECOME the guy.

No such thing as going through the motions, there is always a chance. How many times have we gotten ****ed over after a player makes a verbal commitment?

I hate to play devil’s advocate but what makes most of you believe that this guy is the best guy for the job?

In a typical Jets move, they go ahead and pick a guy that’s had zero GM experience, only “potential”. After all the crap that this franchise has endured over the last 4 yrs, don’t you think that Woody has done himself a disservice by not hiring a guy who’s been around the block a few times?

Also, this guy seems to have a long relationship with Rex going all the way back to when Rex’ s dad coached the Eagles, and Gamble’s dad was president. So if any of you think that a new GM would have brought down the hammer on Rex, you’re gonna be disapointed.

Just saying...

I would like to reply to the affirmative action portion of the discussion. I frequently serve on searches for faculty or other positions. What I can tell you with CERTAINTY is that the in-person part of the process it CRITICAL in making a good decision on any hire.

The way AA works in my experience is very fair to all. Written applications for a position (usually many) are gone through to first eliminate the clearly unqualified. The remainder are ordered as best one can guess and the short-list filled in. Following that, the group close to the short list is inspected for under-represented groups and the list is LENGTHENED. Then, after the list receives appropriate approval, invitations are made, interviews completed, and decisions made.

My experience is that no one is denied an interview that would have made the initial short list. Furthermore, surprises are uncovered. Wins on all levels.

I am not saying this search happens that way. I am saying that every job search is an opportunity to demonstrate the professionalism of the organization making the search. In this regard I am somewhat upset.

What bugs me about this process: THE DAMNED LEAKS! It is insulting to EVERY other candidate, not just Mr. Ross. Further, these leaks could ONLY come from the highest levels of the organization. These leaks speak worse of the professionalism of the Jets than any tatoo.

My hopes include the following:
  • The search is a real search.
  • Each candidate is held to intensive scrutiny.
  • The decision is made AFTER the facts are in hand.
  • The new GM ends the farce of leaking from such a high level.

I don't think anyone here knows enough about his work to intelligently say he is THE guy. All you can do is look at the roster of the 49ers, listen to endorsements by others, and hope for the best. Who would you bring in? Polian is just about the only retread I'd sign up for.

So name some names that fit your criteria.

You want Matt Millen? Vinny Cerato? Pioli?

The point that you are all missing is a phrase that I hold pretty close at heart.

THE CREAM RISES TO THE TOP, NO MATTER WHAT

If you are truly talented at what you do, you will never need laws or restrictions or requirements for your talent to shine through.

I've met a lot of business owners through the years. I've also met a lot of pejudice pr*cks in my life. Unfortunately, some of them were prejudice pr*ck business owners.

In all the time that I've known them, there was always one universal, immutable truth. Every single one of them put their prejudices aside when they step through the door of their businesses. That was in order to let their talent flourish.

They were the same people that would hire a minority just as quickly as they'd hire anyone else.

That was because they knew their personal beliefs about some person were irrelevant when it came to talent in the work place.

It doesn't matter what someone looks like. What matters, most of all when it comes to money, is how well can they do the job? You could have a guy that's a KKK ring leader, or whatever they call them, if that minority does the job better than anybody else? That minority will always be treated well at his/her work place. That business owner will always hold that person in high regard.

It's like when the the State of Maine had a referendum on casinos in the state. I spoke to people that said those casino a$$holes would never hire local people, and as a result, would not bring any jobs to the state. They said they bring in all out of staters and never give any locals a chance.

I laughed in that guys face and told him he was wrong.

Smart people in business always keep an open mind. If they found some Maine people that could deal cards quickly and keep the customers betting? That person would be hired on the spot. It's that simple.

That's just my belief for what it's worth.

With regard to leaks the vast majority of the time in sports these leaks come from agents or representatives of the player/coach/executive involved. They are almost always the 'insecure' link in the chain and as such any half decent reporter/journalist will have cultivated a number of sources among agents and attorneys representing the parties involved. So it's not necessarily the organisation to blame here

rule.

The Jets have done a fine job in this process so far, they have had it out there pretty much from the start that Gamble was their guy. Now if it's out there he TG wants to work for the team that wants him, too bad for Ross it's the NFL making the Jets waste his time with the Rooney

I don’t have any favorites whom i would pick as the next GM.
Wasn’t it that firm’s job to do the searching/ assessing for Woody? I the guess hiring of Emerson Lake and Palmer was all smoke and mirrors!

So why not just bring real affirmative action polices to nfl hiring practices? How about 20% of all hires have to me minorities? Does that satisfy the social engineers?
