My tastes are UK not US centric -Roy Wood, between the Move, ELO, and his solo efforts was quite a talent

(although interestingly fellow Brummie Denny Laine was perhaps the1st to try to assemble a rock orchestra, including the raver Viv Prince)

Like him or not, Lou Reed has an incredible catalog. I think he's one of the great tunesmiths.

yes; you're talking about the first go for ELO; they were great. When Jeff Lynne took over they got a polished Hollywood/FM AOR sound.

I prefer the first one.
