Fehr is a scumbag but so are the owners who want to cap NHL contracts at 5 years after agreeing to dozens of 6 to friggin 10 year pacts only months ago. The owners are asking the players to protect them from themselves.

Only certain teams have the ability for those long term contracts. The Board of Governors wants to help the small market teams stay competitive and solvent.

If the 5 year cap isn't written into the CBA, Fehr would sue the league for collusion if no team offered a player a long term deal.

Call Fehr whatever you want but the NHLPA finally has someone willing and able to stand up to Bettman and his bully tactics.

Don't kid yourselves. Bettman's public persona is nothing like his persona behind closed doors. The guy is a total doosh.

If Fehr was doing the wrong thing, the NHLPA would have cracked long before now and you would have heard some dissension leaked out. Has anyone heard any dissesion whatsoever from any player? I haven't.

By the way, how many of you know how much Bettman makes per year? How about $8M per? There are only 4 players who currently get paid more than that on average per year in the NHL. Ridiculous. All commisioners are overpaid.

I agree on both points. But Fehr is giving Bettmann the opportunity to publicly play the jilted lover card.

Most of us know differently.

Now it's getting more interesting as the union is moving towards decertification with the threat of an anti-trust lawsuit against the NHL.

I dont get it at all.

I read all this stuff and just think both parties are blissfully ignorant to the world around them.

ESPN doesnt even cover your sport not existing (NFL lockout made ESPN a 24 hour grief counseling network). Take a hint.

btw IF this season happens, CBA ratified by the 10th, ten days to fly players in, sign certain RFAs/fill roster spots and have a "training camp". 48 game season starting January 20.
