As you know, Bradway was/is a very good scout. However, that didn't translate into him being a good GM. People always say they want a "football guy" as a GM. Well, Bradway was a football guy and Tannenbaum was a much better GM than him, even though Tannenbaum wasn't a "football guy."

I'll reserve judgment on Gamble until we see what he can do.

I agree, but for some to come on here and say he'll be better than Tannenbaum because he's a "football guy" is stupid as well.

It's also possible this guy is going to be great and we've just taken our first steps towards the 2016 Super Bowl. Bill Polian is helping us, I feel good about that I guess.

Me too.

While I would have loved a younger Bill Polian as our GM, he is too old now. I want a GM with a longer shelf life. But I am glad he has been advising the Jets.

Yes. but his resume and track record are solid. of all the available people, he is perhaps the person with the best resume.

Was there someone you thought was better? curious.

The only guy I wanted more was the Raven's asst GM, but he won't even take interviews as he is guaranteed the Raven's GM job when Ozzie Newsome retires. I like that Gamble has had such a varied history and more importantly his specialty is talent evaluation. Forget the cap and contract negotiations (which he has experience in anyway).. stockpile talent and everything will take care of itself.

I'm saying Terry Bradway was/is known to be a good talent evaluator, but sucked as a GM.

It's not easy being a good GM.

So either:

1. This guy was specifically picked because he's the type of GM that would be comfortable with Rex Ryan and continue to support his strategy to win on defense and a ground game for the next 3-4 years.

2. This is the best we could do because our front office is such a mess. Taking a flier on a GM project that was never given a look by anybody else in a whopping 25 years in the NFL.

SAR I
I am curious as to why the guy is all of a sudden the #1 candidate this year after being in personnel for so many years. I've never heard his name come up before. Again, just curious.

Does anyone know what players he is directly responsible for drafting (college) or free agent recruiting (pro personnel)?

I think I can speak for all of us here (Jet fans), that we hope whomever the hire is, that our roster improves and the team finally hoists the Lombardi.

Sounds well rounded.

Coaching, scouting, and contract experience.

As opposed to a glorified accountant.

He is coming from a team that has rebuilt with young talent through the draft so he has that experience.

24 year deep in football operations as opposed to a coffee boy who survived for a few years and got lucky bull****ting his way up.

the fact of the matter is tom gamble knows rex ryan so its safe to say rex is safe for at least this year.

i do look for gamble to replace both the defensive and offensive coordinators with a guy to take over for rex if the jets falter again in 2013.

tom gamble also drafted some really good players that the jets passed up on.

Good but not a miracle worker

His draft record is generally positive but he's had a fair number of draft busts (like 2012 #1 pick AJ Jenkins). He's no draft wizard imo. Good but not a miracle worker.

EDIT: he drafted lots of stars but also some questionable picks. I bolded the questionable picks from rounds 1 and 2 (don't have time to look up every player from all the rounds).
