Well if Woody doesn't get his guy Gamble, then that consulting firm was a huge waste of cash!

Has Gamble interviewed anywhere but with the Jets so far? If not, and if Jacksoville and SD were interested, he'd be stupid to not at least visit somewhere else.

I dont get the "Jets eyeing another GM candidate" comment by Shefter. Does that mean they have a specific canditate that they prefer to Gamble or is it just Shefter adding some BS to his tweet?

He interviewed with Jax already and reportedly turned down a 2nd interview with them to concentrate on the Jets

Maybe DeCosta has had a change of heart and will interview with the Jets, or maybe Gamble told Woody he will only take the job if he can Ax Rex and hire Tomsula as HC.

San Francisco 49ers director of player personnel Tom Gamble will interview Tuesday for the San Diego Chargers' vacant general manager job, according to league sources.

Gamble met Saturday with the New York Jets, who are looking to replace fired GM Mike Tannenbaum, sources said.

Gamble told the Jacksonville Jaguars he wasn't going to take a second interview for their GM job so he could concentrate on landing the Jets' position, sources said.

The Jets, though, are eyeing another GM candidate aside from Gamble, according to league sources.

New York Giants director of college scouting Marc Ross is scheduled to interview for the job on Monday, a league source said. He will interview for the Panthers GM job on Tuesday.

The Jaguars have narrowed their GM search to Falcons director of player personnel Dave Caldwell and Cardinals vice president of player personnel Steve Keim, sources said. Caldwell interviewed Friday with the Jets.

Shortly after the Jets fired Tannenbaum, they made a major push to interview and hire Ravens assistant general manager Eric DeCosta. Ultimately, they could not convince DeCosta to so much as interview for the job because he has a deal with Baltimore to be the successor to current GM Ozzie Newsome.

Gamble, the son of former Eagles president Harry Gamble, began his career in an entry-level position with the Eagles and worked his way up through the scouting and personnel ranks. He actually spent two seasons as a quality-control coach for the Jets under Rich Kotite (1995-96).

The Jets received a glowing recommendation on Gamble from former NFL executive and current ESPN analyst Bill Polian, who worked as the Colts' GM when Gamble was a college scout for the team.

Gamble has spent seven years with the 49ers, currently overseeing pro and college scouting under GM Trent Baalke, a former Jets scout.

LoL! It makes no sense to bring Rex back so the new GM can fire him next January! It would be a waste of a year! Let an entire new staff get in there for '13 so in '14 they might be able to start to win some games again!

“The process is winding down. As you know, we’ve been on the road the last few days and just returned to San Diego,” Spanos said, via the team’s website. “It was a productive trip as we were able to meet with a number of people in a short period of time. Hopefully we can make a decision within the next day or two.”

Seem a little bit odd to be making a claim like this when they haven't even interviewed with Gamble (who is argued to be the top candidate on the market), yet have an interview set up with him.......sounds for the most part like they've already made their decision. (according to Kevin Acee, Jimmy Rae, and Colts Vice President of Football Operations, Tom Telesco are the Bolts top 2 candidates)

Gamble's not making it to San Diego, and they know it....he'll be a Jet, before Tuesday is over.

I wouldn't. Everyone else mentioned has never been a GM. It's a crapshoot just like the draft is. I'll go with a seasoned GM like Pioli who has a history of success.

This post is the most bizarre one i've come across. If Sanchez thrives next year the Jets will win the division, and Rex will thrive, unless you believe our defense will collapse. Fortunately for Jet fans,Sanchez won't be here next year

still seems gamble is the guy. the ross interview smells of rooney rule. not that ross isn't what the talking heads are but the giants have also had their fair share of 6-10 seasons under coughlin and just how much of that is because of reese and ross can only be speculated on. at least the team's gamble has been associated with seem to be doing better when he leaves as opposed to when he gets there. and also gamble was there with kotite and maybe had some influence in getting the talent that ultimately became the 98 team.

Your assuming a new GM is going to want to fire Ryan at the end of next year. How would you know that

That's not keeping your opportunities open?

And actually when you think about it, this is not anything we didn't know.

We knew the Jets were going to interview Marc Ross and Scott Cohen (whom I wouldn't mind because he has a football background)

We knew that Gamble moved his interview with San Diego for family reasons.

What new info is there?
Maybe because he figured they wanted Caldwell, and he rather give the appearance that he shunned them rather than they shunning him.

surely there will be a story posted shortly on one of the fine news outlets about the circus Jets and their indecisiveness on the future GM.

There is a pretty strong track record for new GMs doing just that. Throw in Rex's one of a kind in the nfl personality it is not a stretch to to assume that.

Cohen or Clinkscales make the most sense if you're going to keep Ryan. Just does. If I were Gamble I'd want to pick my own guy and get going NOW as opposed to in 2014, too. Here we go ...
