Here is my Musburger story. I used to work at a golf course in Connecticut in the 80's. He was a member there. One year, I was in the main office and happened to see the sheet that listed all of the member contributions to the Christmas bonuses. I went back to our shop and we looked it over to see who was generous and who was a cheap bastard. Musburger had just signed a big contract at CBS. It was for like 2 million a year.

His contribution to the employee Christmas bonus?

About 50 cents per employee.

I guarantee his handicap went up the next year because we made it our goal to mess with him. He would hit a ball right down the middle on a blind hole and we run over and throw it into the rough, or behind a tree or just flat out take it.

Then we would watch the hilarity as he looked for his ball and couldn't believe his bad luck.

Conversely, some of the members that were generous would hit a ball into the woods and get an amazing kick out into the fairway. There were a lot of elevated greens and sometimes a "foot wedge" would knock a ball that went off the green back on.

Here's a BM story I heard:

He was fired from CBS on April 1, 1990. Supposedly he went out to dinner that night and tried to pay for the dinner with his company credit card. The waiter returned and said it was declined. Musburger looked at his guests and said "Wow, they act fast." The waiter then grinned and said "April Fools!"

Don't know what happened after that, maybe the waiter got stiffed.
