Jim Popp for GM!!
http://en.montrealalouettes.com/page/jim-popp
He's now my choice. Why? Because he's been successful running an organization (granted it's not the NFL, but the skills may translate), which can't be said about any of the other guys we're looking at. Maybe it's time to think outside the box? Why not at least interview the guy? He could bring Marc Trestman with him as OC or QB coach. |

Qualified or not, the media would have a field day if the Jets hired a guy from the CFL to be their GM. So would this site.

I don't think either of those guys are on the Jets radar but both would be very good. I do agree that the optics would not be good for a franchise that likes the splash. |

Popp has kept the Alouettes competitive for roughly 15 years. With all the player turnover that goes on in the CFL, and their limited cap budget (4.4 million for 53 players)....I think he'd be an intriguing hire.
Popp was also a runner-up in the Colts GM search last year. The Jets would be served well to bring him in for an interview. |

@MMehtaNYDN: Jim Popp, GM of Montreal Alouettes in CFL, is believed to be on Jets GM radar as well, I'm told. He had been in mix for Panthers job #nyj
@JasonLaCanfora: @MMehtaNYDN Popp has been contacted, yeah man. not sure of definite interview but thought of highly in that organization for good reason @MMehtaNYDN: So to recap expanded Jets GM search: Upcoming interviews for Jerry Angelo, Omar Khan, Brian Gaine, John Idzik. Jim Popp also on radar. #nyj @JasonLaCanfora: As @MMehtaNYDN notes, CFL GM Jim Popp likely to interview with Jets as well. Popp is very good. Runner up for Colts job last year... |

@JasonLaCanfora: Shahid Khan flew to Charlotte, near Popp's home, for lengthy interview for Jags job and Panthers met with him as well sources said

I can't remember who tweeted it, but read earlier tonight that Carolina was set on Gettleman, then Popp crushed his interview, and ultimately made their choice much more difficult than anticipated.

People want a personnel guy. He's a personnel guy. I'd take him.

I heard that Popp wowed the Panthers and made it tough on them between him and Gentleman for the job. He was also a finalist for the Colts job last year.
Maybe hes impressing teams but they are nervous about hiring a CFL guy? |

Dimitroff was a CFL guy as well but he left a lot younger. They had to find a ton of under the radar talent to stay a contender for 20 years.

There is a connection between Popp and the Jets
Herb Zurkowsky @HerbZurkowsky1 So now reports are surfacing #Als GM Jim Popp could be candidate for NY Jets. Brock Sunderland, Jets' scout, used to work for Montreal. |
