Sometimes that correct business decision is to know when to cut bait. It's one of those times. Unfortunately the reason the Jets are needing to cut bait every few years is because of poor hiring decisions to start with.

How about this...

#1 upgrade / coach the O-Line to a level where the QB (whichever QB it is) has more than 2.5 seconds to make a play.

#2 upgrade / coach running backs to actually run past the line of scrimmage so that playaction becomes weapon.

#3 Play to the strengths of the starting QB, if it's Sanchez then let him move around and make plays. If Tebow starts then go wildcat and let him win games that way.

Swapping those guys on certain plays did nothing for either one last season, but you can't pin the blame exclusively on them. The Jets lacked leadership from the FO through the coaches all the way down to the players.

+1. Committing to Tebow is EITHER committing to a different offensive system, or playing Tebow in a 'conventional' offense, which IMHO takes away any true strengths he has as a QB.

No to Tebow, in my view.

Jet Fans refer to their team as "our". Obviously, you are more concerned about Tim Tebow than the Jets.

Not only is he not the best QB on the roster , there's probaly Wr's on our roster who are better QB's . Enjoy watching the Omaha Cornstalkers of the indoor football league - that's likely Timmy's next stop.

Listen, I feel bad for Tebow and the sitaution that the Jets put him in. Everyone knows he is a high quality guy. I respect that. My youngest daughter loves him.

But in no way shape or form is he an NFL QB. End of story...

My favorite part is signing a vet QB for league minimum.....Everything else....just awesome...
Imagine the OC the Jets can attract with this "serious" 2013 game plan

In the likely event the Jets cannot find a trade partner for either Sanchez or Tebow, here is my opinion of a sensible way to deal with the QB issue:

April 2013 - Draft the best available QB who has the potential to lead the attacking style offense alluded to by Ryan. A prospect who the team feels has the ability to be the starter as early as his 2nd season.

June 1, 2013 - Cut Sanchez. The 17 million Cap hit would be assessed at 12.3 million in 2013 and 4.8 million in 2014. Oh, and yes the Jets would need to cut Sanchez a check for 8.2 million.

May-Jun-Jul 2013 - Sign a veteran FA QB at NFL minimum

July 2013 - Open training camp with Tebow as starter, his job to lose. Why? His salary is peanuts at 2.5 million. He would definitely lead the offense to better results than the team achieved in 2012 via turnover reduction alone and improved TOP via an improved rush game. If he develops as a passer, bonus.... Other teams will notice.

Use the veteran FA backup to help groom the draftee, use him in emergency, etc.

Basically, win 6-8 games in 2013 while improving Tebow's marketability, while preparing the draftee to take over in 2014.

Unload Tebow in 2014. I would wager that the Jets could get a trade partner next year after Tebow actually has taken 1000 snaps to show what he can do.

2013 will be a rough ride anyway. Ride it with Tebow and see if he can play his way outta town in 2014.

When you're writing your next business plan don't use the word wager.

Yeah, no.
this. Came in expecting well reasoned and thought out approach to fixing Jets. Then saw OP's choice of Tebow as opening day starter because he is "cheap" and had this resposne:

Watch the play again as given your description above, it's apparent that you didn't pay close attention. It definitely wasn't a case of the Dline breaking through and forcing Tebow back. Tebow knew what he was going to do PRE SNAP.

How is that possible ? It's because he IDENTIFIED THE BLITZ PRE SNAP, contrary to your claim.
Oh look it's Tebow's cousin again. i thought we had gotten rid of you for good. I guess we are going to have to wait until the Jets actually cut him.

I can't wait until Tebow is cut and all you people worshipping a false idol find somewhere else to go.

You're all unbearable. I hope someday one of your favorite passtimes (hunting? darts?) has a bunch of extremist intruders who are completely unknowledgeable yet are convinced they know better than you.

This is going to be one of the options going foward; however, I don't think it is going to be the one picked.

Perhaps it becomes more palatable if in TC , all three QB fight for the QB position. If Tebow looses then you see if he is willing to play some Fullback/RB to get some value from him staying.

I've got an alternate plan.

(1) Cut Tebow

(2) Since we all could care less about Sanchez, let's turn him into the best version of RGIII, Newton, Wilson running scrabling QB he is able to become. I know he's no where near as talented as these guys but since the concensus is that he is better on the move let's get him moving. We're stuck with him so why not try it.

PS: the above is just a pipe dream and it will be up to the new GM to dictate our course but if we still had Tanny this would have been a reasonable plan.
