Not a very impressive list. Almost everyone seems pretty marginal.

Jonathan Ogden was as good a LT as I've ever seen. I think he deserves to be a first ballot HOFer. I haven't looked it up, but my guess is that he would have been All Pro in most years during his prime.

If I had to choose between Allen and Ogden, I'd probably go with Ogden, on account of the position (although Allen played Guard and Tackle). But, Larry Allen was fantastic and was the best player on those Cowboy Offensive Lines that were probably the best sustained O-lines in the recent history of the NFL.

I'm drawing a blank as to who played LT, but with Nate Newton and Larry Allen at Guard, Stepnoski at Center and Erik Williams at RT, I could have broken a rushing record too.

Edit: Mark Tuinei played LT, I think.

Still annoyed over that Tim Brown 1000 catch fiasco on the field in Oakland that year ....what a circus.

Strahan, Allen, Ogden are shoe-ins IMO.

Parcells should get in but I don't know if they voters are still punishing him.

IMO Larry Allen was the most dominant OL in history. People would fake injury to avoid playing against him:

Quote:

"Guys will look to find a way out when they have to play him," Strahan said. "The saddest thing is how many players will watch him on film during the week and then, as the game gets closer, they pull up with some mysterious injury or flu or something. We call that catching 'Allen-itis.' He doesn't just block people, he hurts people," said Strahan.

I initially forgot that Allen switched over to Tackle. I always had him in my mind as a Guard. As a Guard, specifically, I don't remember anyone better.

I guess when I compare the two, the only knock (which isn't a knock) was that Allen played on the most dominant line of his time - Ogden was a dominant OL on an otherwise non-descript Oline, which makes his dominance a little more special.

But both probably deserve to be 1st balloters, IMO.

I remember towards the end of Ogden's career, he had a bad day against Dwight Freeney, and gave up 2 sacks. They asked Freeney if he had looked at tape to see how other people beat Ogden, and Freeney said he looked at tons of tape, but couldn't find anyone who had beaten Ogden for a sack. He just got an injured, almost retired Jonathan.

He played left tackle, dominated the run, and went years between giving up a sack. Years. The biggest LT I have seen, but he actually had great feet, great technique, everything.

If you could put Ogden and Larry Allen next to each other, you could literally run 50 times a game for 250 yards. There is literally nothing that could stop you.

Agreed - The absolute prototypes for LT and Guard respectively.

not true. Jonathan Ogdan was a mainstay and All pro at LT for many years.
Worthy of HOF.
Also, I like Cris Carter ( 130 td catches)
and Bill Parcells.

Shields > Allen

Longer career, only missed on game, more pro bowls, more all pro seasons.

Shields should have been first ballot but had to wait a year. Larry should wait a year as well.

Klecko will never get in and it's really too bad. If that 82 or 86 team won the SB and he'd have made it years ago.

Sapp was dominant at the position. I wish the Jets had him. He did have a bad attitude at times so maybe I'll give you this one.

Carter was one of the greatest receivers I've ever seen. If the game was an important one, he would catch everything that was catchable. He was spectacular. He could stretchout like no other receiver could.
