We have to doubt that if there is any new GM other than Cohen that they would be making informed decisions not relying on Rex like Tanny did.
Between Tony Pauline indicating the Jets want a figurehead GM and sources saying Sundquist deferred to Shanahan, it gives me some pause about the whole ordeal.

SOurces can be wrong, but I'm just responding to the information that's out there.

Isnt that a false equivelent like CB mentioned?

First, in no way can you compare the Shanahan situation to Rex's because Shanahan actually had an excellent HC resume.

Second, the Tanny situation was unique because he was completely lacking personnel experience was was forced to rely on Mangini and Rex for imput. Tanny had no foundation to rely on.

Outside of the 2006 draft, Sundquist drafted:

Clinton Portis and Ashley Lelie in 2002 and D.J. Williams in 2004. That is not a lot of good picks outside that 2006 draft, which to be fair was great, not good.

Jay Cutler
Tony Scheffler
Brandon Marshall
Elvis Dumervil
Domenik Hixon (good role player with the Giants)
Chris Kuper

That's one of the best drafts in recent memory for any team.

I get that. As I mentioned above, however, the Shanahan situation is completely distinguishable.

At the time, Shanahan and Belichick were the only 2 active HCs with at least 2 SB championships. Was it bad to defer to Belichick? (in hindsight yes, because the Pats drafts sucked back then ) but still. That shouldn't be a knock on Sundquist.

As to the figurehead point, we have no idea the validity of that.

Don't trust Bassett. He thought Gamble was locked.

So on one hand sundquist is being blamed for ceding control to shannahan and on the other he is being blamed for bad drafts? It cant be both.

Frankly, sundquist was 2nd in command to shannahan, idizik was/is 2nd in command to Schneider and Khan is second in command to the Pitts GM, so we have no idea how involved these guys are.

Each one could have been overruled on every draft pick or had their respective GM choose "their guy" with every pick.

We will never know until they get here.

He has been more right than wrong throughout his history. I will take his word most of the time.

Actual quote from him: "A source has told us that Seattle VP of Administration, John Idzik will be the next GM for the New York Jets."

I hope it's true this time.

It's possible that shanny having final was merely written into his contract I think he has that in Washington.

Who knows about Bassett, but he couldve been right at the time. Multiple sources said the Jets were high on Gamble going into the interview. The story changed after the interview.

Didn't know this but Idzik does have a Jets connection.

His father was the offensive coordinator of the Jets from 1976-1979.

Okay that last sentence has been a bit overplayed don't you think?

I imagine Idzik or whomever takes the job will be paid quite handsomely.

Yup. He was directly involved in the Richard Todd/Matt Robinson controversey.

Yes, the article outlining Gamble's contract (3 years with an option for a 4th at 2-3 million per year) is still linked right under this 'announcement'.

Which looking back shouldn't have been a controversy. Matt Robinson was not good at all.

apparently Idzik and Neal Glat (Jets president) worked together before doing league business, so there is another connection
