BOSTON (WHDH) -- Sunday’s matchup between the New England Patriots and the Baltimore Ravens has Boston Mayor Thomas Menino mixing some things up.

While on the phone with Baltimore’s mayor he mispronounced an important player’s name -- Menino called Patriots defensive tackle Vince Wilfork “Wilcock” instead.

This is not the first time Menino has messed up a player’s name. Last summer he referred to Celtics superstars Kevin Garnett and Rajon Rondo as KJ and Hondo.

Yeah try looking him up on you tube he has done it to so many athletes...the guy is a wreck! But it is hilarious! Its amazing that he has lasted so long as the mayor!

Menino is a train wreck. He does stuff like that all the time. And he sounds just like Peter Griffin.

At the Democratic National Convention, he referred to Martin Luther King, jr as "Martha Luther King, jr."

Remember when Jason Varitek nailed the field goal that gave the Patriots a Super Bowl victory?

No, because it didn't happen. But that's the scene Boston mayor Tom Menino mistakenly painted at a ceremony honoring Bruins legend Bobby Orr on Tuesday.

Menino, famous for verbal faux pas, used the name of Varitek, the Red Sox catcher, when he meant to speak of former Patriots K Adam Vinatieri, who kicked last-minute field goals in two of the Patriots' three Super Bowl wins.

Said Menino:

"Boston has an amazing set of remarkable athletes whose actions in the moment have become ionic (sic) in sports. (John) Havlicek stole the ball. Fisk waved the ball fair. (Doug) Flutie launched the Hail Mary pass. Varitek split the uprights."

What's especially odd is that Menino appeared to be reading from a script.

And it's all part of Mumbles Menino's (as he's known in Boston) schtick. He'd mangled other names in the past and he's a horrible public speaker. I think its a put-on, honestly, to make him look like a harmless, golly-gee, bumpkin kind of a mayor. It's certainly worked for him as he's been the mayor for the past 20 years. There's no arguing, however, that he;s done some great things for the city.
