Uh, Sanchez is a horrible fit for the WCO. I don't think there is possibly another offensive style that suits Sanchez worse.

WCO requires an accurate QB who can hit receivers in stride to get YAC. Out of Sanchez's many weaknesses his accuracy is number 1.

What's up with Sundquist tweeting about this? Wasn't he a candidate for Jets GM?

Interesting points he makes.

The Jets are clearly trying to salvage Mark Sanchez.

This was from a scouting report the year he was drafted at USC:

Possesses above-average arm strength, but it's his accuracy and timing that make him efficient. Has been tutored in an NFL-style offense at USC and showcases the ability to make NFL-type reads.

In addition hehad a 65% completion pct in college.

My point, he's yet to play in a true offense in the NFL. The G&P philosophy of Rex is about as archaic of an offense as there is. Let's see what Mornhinweg can do with him this year, if he falters he's gone and next year along with the cap concern.

accuracy is needed for all "offenses" but WCO is a great fit for Sanchez

The West Coast Offense employs a variety of formations and pre-snap motions designed to confuse defenders. It also relies heavily on an ability to flood a defense with more receivers than they can handle. The quarterback often moves around more than in a conventional offense with designed roll outs and bootlegs that are tied in with the patterns being run by the receivers.

the bold part are the strengths of Sanchize

I wasn't for Marty Mornhinweg based on negative stigma attached to him but when you look at his body of work. It's actually pretty good. It fits especially when you consider the big play element that the Jets lacked. Ultimately, The league is all about talent but if you read Marty's bio in the Eagles media guide. He has an excellent track record as an OC. Snippets from his bio.

The 2011 Eagles offense set franchise records in total net yards(6,386) and first downs(356). LeSean McCoy finished the year with 1,309 yards and 20 total touchdowns.

From 2008 to 2010. Mornhinweg's Eagles offense shattered the record for points scored. In 2010, The Eagles ranked 2nd in overall yards and became the first offense in league history to average over 4 yards an attempt in all 16 regular season games. Team averaged league best 5.4 yards a run.
For his efforts, Marty Mornhinweg earned NFL assistant coach of the year honors from Pro Football Weekly.

Since Marty Morhinweg took over the Eagles play calling in 2006, The Eagles lead the NFL in 25 plus yard pass plays(219) and yards per touch(8.1). The Eagles were 3rd in yards and 5th in scoring in the league over that span.

His offensive playcalling success extends back to his time in San Fran. in 1998, The 49ers became the first team since the 1941 Bears to lead the league in gross passing and rushing yards en route to a franchise best 6,800 yards.

And what about this part?

Sanchez needs to make quick decisions and throw the ball into high traffic areas which means a high degree of accuracy is needed. With his inability to read defenses and horrendous accuracy that probably means picks galore.

WCO needs a smart and accurate QB. Sanchez is neither.

If you read some of the posts made by his few supporters on JI you'd think that Sanchez was a great QB but misunderstood. He is capable of all great things that JOE MONTANA experienced in the WCO because---- they say so!

Andy and Marty are friends so I wonder if Marty pulled a Mike Pettine. Maybe wanting to get out from under his own friend's shadow.

....because Andy Reid wanted to return to calling offensive plays himself. Which he announced at his press conference.

His OC is former NFL backup Doug Pederson, who was Reid's QB coach in Philly the last 2 years, and has zero experience being a Offensive Co-Ordinator at any level. He'll be learning the ropes on the job, while Reid does the heavy lifting.

Reid stripped himself of playcalling in 2006 and Marty took over. Eagles broke team records from 06 to 12. I also think, Marty wants to get out from under Reid's shadow much the same way, Mike Pettine wants to do the same with Rex. No these are not fat jokes.lol

Took the words right out of my mouth!

But seriously Sanchez can't perform much worse than he did last year and some of his problems were a result of not matching up an offense to help him succeed. He will get one last chance to be a starting QB in a WCO. If he does poorly again he will be gone, but the Jets have many holes to fill and they won't be getting a new QB with the contract they are stuck with in Sanchez.

That they are 'clearly trying to salvage Sanchez'.

Ah, my bad.

Maybe it's not that clear but I think this choice of OC in Mornhinweg is a sign they want to shift towards an offense that favors Sanchez's strengths of moving the pocket, rollouts and throwing on the run.
