these columnists are so narrow-minded. ok, Idzik is good with numbers and hasn't been on the personnel side so much. Apparently that means he has no clue what a good football player is. hey meyers, maybe meet the guy first before you write an article about him not being the right choice.

I have not read these papers in YEARS...I get my info from the Jets website....why read this idiocy and get riled up? its truly a waste of time....these bozos say the same thing all the time....what they write has NO bearing on what the Jets do....thats ALL that counts.

This is why newspapers are failing. They give you bad writing and nonsense.

Flip side.... WOODY has worn out any benefit of the doubt.
He is running the JETS poorly. There's a reason the Ravens didnt want REX and J and J didnt want Woody. So the good news...we get both the rejects. Perhaps it will work out. Idzik seems fine but its always a crap shoot. Well 43 years isn't so long, we can wait another 43.

I never understood why folks get so riled up about a writer's opinion. He also wrote a favorable piece about the Mornhinweg hire:

The more you hear and read from these guys with room temperature IQ's( Cimini, Meyers, Schein and Francesa), don't you feel better about the hiring?

Let us give the new GM a chance first
Myers and Cimini want a sure thing in hiring a GM. In hiring someone there is no such thing. Look at Parcells. He was 34-32 in coaching the Cowboys. He did not get them to a SB.

Idzik's dad was Jets OC from 1976-1979 and resigned because he didn't get along with Walt Michaels. Their biggest disagreement was the Richard Todd/Matt Robinson QB debate. Idzik was in the Todd camp.

All these two do is cite "a source", or "an insider". I'm pretty sure they say to their cat "bark if you don't think the Jets made a bad decision" and then cite them as their "source".

It is becoming more and more evident that these writers really dont make an attempt to educate themselves about the topics or people they write about. They have a story already in mind regardless of the person or situation. We all knew what the narrative was going to be regardless of the hire. The day of a writer doing research and putting thought into a story is over. You would think that given how long the process was for the Jets to hire a GM, that these writers would have at least done some basic research into these candidates.

Columnists write opinions, they really don't need facts to justify them...they create the narrative. Beat writers in the offseason become columnists, with little hard news to report on.
The NY Daily News DESTROYED the Yankees when they hired Torre..."Clueless Joe" was the headline. Were they remotely right??? They all hedge their bets...unnamed sources, "could be a bad hire", they all provide face saving outs if they are successful. The fact is a broken clock is right twice a day, these guys in giving a thumbs up or thumbs down have a 50/50 chance of being correct. Look at Myers...he wrote a column a few weeks ago that basically said the Jets should keep Rex and fire Tannenbaum. Has he consistently defended the position, or has be fluctuated as the wind blows? Let them prattle on...it's all good fun. The proof will be in the pudding, and it's always way more fun listening when they are eating some crow. |

Ahh...you sir are the voice of mediocrity. ![]() Why didnt Baltimore promote REX to HC? They went to PHILLY and got PHILLY's defensive backs coach. THEY KNEW! Woody didn't. I actually like REX but he may be in over his head. |

I agree with him. Todd was a pick machine but I liked him back then.

I read Manish's story today and it had some interesting tidbits. I didn't find it slanted either..

I see Meyers had actually LOWERED his standards.
Now it's no longer "an NFL source" that says X. It's "One source says".... So now it's anyone's guess what the "qualifications" of the source are. Bottom of the barrel, and so predictable. Don't buy the NYDN, and don't click NYDN links. |
