And we once fall for "perception" regarding Revis

This whole media circus regarding the possible Revis trade is nothing more than speculation because the media has the perception that the Jets could trade him. Neither Rex, Woody, Idzik or anyone else who matters has said "we are looking to trade Revis". Of course it is a possibility, anything is. That does not mean that the Jets will do it.

In the end we once again fall for the media giving out there opinion and believe it is what the Jets want to do. Just like with the GM search. Just like many times in the past.

Please show me where anybody from the Jets says that trading Revis is a goal for this offseason. An actual quote or statement.

If you keep repeating something it starts sound like the truth.

The fact that they're open to it is newsworthy given Revis' stature as the best CB in the NFL. I would look at it as a postive that the front office will take nothing off the table when it comes to making the team better. At worse they still have the best CB in the game if they don't and at best trade him for players/picks that have a huge impact on the team. If they can get a Heshel Walker like deal all the better...who knows?

The Jets would be remiss if they did not at least explore the possibility of trading Revis. I am not saying they should trade him, but they should at least test the market before deciding whether or not to trade him.

Come on man! This isnt even news. Anyone with a brain knew Revis would be traded. It sucks, it's bad timing but we are in a tough spot.. We have no cap, we are going to be pretty bad the next 2 years and we have about 12 positions too fill this year.. We need help and Revis is our best chip...

Revis is as good as gone!

Im pretty sure if we trade Revis this year we take a 3.3 cap hit, so that would make that arguement null.

This leak definetley came from the Jets, I dont think we can deny it. BUT, me thinks it's a shot across the bow to the Revis camp for NEGOTIATION PURPOSES. Revis's agents have played hard ball and I think the Jets are starting to play the same game with them.

It doesn't make sense to trade him. We're not getting a 1st.

It's not like this Revis situation came out of nowhere or happened overnight. The Jets couldn't get him signed long term the last time his contract was up and there was a lengthy hold out. Revis wants a lot of money. Imagine if the Jets let him play this season and don't trade him. He hits the free agent market and there is no way the Jets can afford to outbid other teams for his services. He has already shown he is more about money than team. If he was about team he would agree to a reasonable long term deal with Jets but he wants all the money he can get. Jets have no choice but to trade him and this scenario didn't pop up over night!

They are doing the smart thing, put a value on revis and if he is set on getting more then make a trade and get something back while you can

I am sure they let that 'leak' into the media to put Revis on notice that he isn't the one calling the shots this time.
Of course the media falls for it hook line and sinker and even tried to start something by saying that Woody is meddling in personnel since the report supposedly said "Woody was Looking into trading REvis".
I'm glad the Jets are finally getting savvy enough to use the media to their advantage, not the other way around.

An argument can be made for and against trading Revis. He is looking for a new deal, we had a solid secondary last year and he comes off an injury. The last fact though means his value isn't exactly at a high point, we got another high paid cornerback coming off a career year and Revis is all time talent who allows us to do more with the rest of the defense (played a part in our weakness against the run this year).

No matter how you spin it, trading him is far from a foregone conclusion.

It is the off week in the playoffs, and The Jets are the #1 story right now

Why? Because our media has an agenda.

Idzik has his 1st presser, and we have radio douchebags already pronouncing him a bust.

take it with a grain of salt, all of it. It's just a huge bunch of sh1t

No argument, He either gets paid what the Jets think is fair and possible, or he gets traded for what someone thinks he is worth if possible. Sure having him here is seems great, but not at all costs the Jets have been there and done that they need bodies.

It's the old media trick - take something that a team says they won't rule out, and portray it as being their absolute intention.

E.g.

Q - "Will you select a QB in the first round?"
A - "We won't rule it out"
Media - "Team X to take QB in first round"

or ...

Q - "Will you fire Rex if he doesn't make the play-offs next year?"
A - "There is no ultimatum like that for Rex"
Media - "Rex's job safe no matter the outcome in 2014"

We can have this without Revis. We need to make the offense strong!

Here's a possible exit strategy that Idzik and the Jets may be working on. It's been reported that the Jets are interested in former Heisman finalist, Tyrann “Honey Badger” Mathieu. What the Jets may try to do is draft someone like Tyrann somewhere in rounds 3-5 of the draft. Or maybe use a 2nd rounder on a less risky potential starting CB.

Use the acquired CB as leverage and begin to aggressively try to get Revis to agree to a contract. If they succeed, then they trade Cro. If they fail to agree on a $$$ landing spot with Revis. Then Jets aggressively shop Revis. In the end of this process, Jets may end up settling for less then a #1 pick. But can possibly still get a #2 and maybe an additional #4 or 5 pick.

Then Jets use the Tyrann or some other corner Jets drafted, in the slot. With Cro and Wilson continuing as #1 and #2 CBs, as they did last year.

Drafting a quality CB is a cheap solution to replace either Revis or Cro. It lowers the amount of CAP space assigned to the CB position. Enabling the Jets to use that CAP savings for another position of need.

IMO this could be a reasonable possibility on how Idzik and Jets plan to deal with Revis and the CB situation.

I like the idea of adding Matthieu but we don't need to pay Revis 11-14 mil when we have Cro for 8-9 mil. CB JUST isn't as valuable as a good pash rush or QB. We should try to get a nice 1st round pick to get bridge water or Johnny football next year

the Jets make like so easy for the media. If they don't have a good story to write, they can just make one up on the Jets. Any fan knows the Revis contract situation. It's only common sense that it be an option to trade him. Does anyone really believe La Canfora actually even had a "source" who told him Woody wants to trade Revis?

Tyran Mathieu is not going to give the Jets leverage at the CB position over Revis. He is not a CB in the NFL.

Plus the Jets can not wait until after the draft to trade Revis. They need to get value this year and have a conditional pick next year. Waiting for any compensation for Revis until 2014 would be a bad move.

We do not even need to get a CB when we trade Revis. We already saw that we can be ok in the secondary without him plus we should get Aaron Berry healthy for next season.
