Just Saw the Black Watch

For those not in the know, the Black Watch & Band of the Scots Guards & The Pipes, Drums and Highland Dancers of 3rd Battalion.

Quote:
The magnificent pageantry of British military tradition and history comes to life when these two esteemed military bands take the stage in ceremonial uniforms to fill the hall with rousing marches, stirring anthems, the distinctive sounds of bagpipes and brass, high-spirited Scottish highland sword dances and the precision of regimental marching. With a grand history spanning nearly three centuries, The Black Watch has served in historic conflicts going back to Ticonderoga and Waterloo, and its pipes and drummers have proudly escorted the troops into battle. The Band of the Scots Guards, formed in 1642 by King Charles, boosted morale for British troops throughout both World Wars, and today, this celebrated 40-member orchestra performs at the daily Guard Mounting at Buckingham Palace and at various state functions, while also touring the globe. Don’t miss this exciting performance featuring all of the pomp and circumstance of British life.
Very enjoyable, very moving show.

Stars and Stripes and Union Jack Flags on prominent display behind them on stage, they played a host of traditional tunes, and a very nice honor to the U.S. Millitary, playing all four major service arms songs/marches. They were formally granted permission at shows end to march off stage by the Commanding Officer of (I believe, sound was muffled) the U.S. Marine Corp Band.

Of perhaps more interest to my friends here was the Scotch bar, and the three Scotches I was privliged to sample this evening during intermssion.

Good times.

Was thinking of going but it's a little pricey and quite a drive.

Did your bring your wife? Did she enjoy. Mine would go, but wouldn't enjoy.

Aye, she went (her idea actually), and she enjoyed.

We're quite into the idea of seeing the Edinburgh Tattoo when we go back to Scotland.

Is it a bad thing that I teared up a little at Scotland the Brave?

It's an involuntary reaction. It's happened to me my whole life and it never lessens.

My brother plays in a band in Southern Florida made up of retired police and fire called Guns 'n Hoses.

Learned to play at 55!

Nice. Spent the afternoon with the NYPD Pipes and Drums, they were doing a benefit for a bunch of their own guys who lost their homes during Sandy. Never gets old.

You know I was thinking that. Plus you get sheep dogs.

They still charge too much though.

Laddie, what's the difference between a bagpipe and an onion?

No one cries when you chop up a bagpipe!
