Actually, the Jets haven't built through the draft in many years. We hit on a high percentage of players drafted, and that sustained us. Think about how many picks we actually had, and how many we traded away.

Tanny didn't value later round picks like Seattle does.

We'll see. We all want a better team.

I understand that.

My comment was in reference to knowing that Idzik's drafting philosophy is the polar opposite of Tannenbaum's.

EA wrote "Idzik won’t look for a quick fix. The Jets will value their draft picks and it would not surprise me to see them stockpile a few here in the future.

Tanny didn't value the entire draft, so i wouldn't file it there just yet.

at least it appears we won't be handing out draft picks like penny candy to other teams

(no problem, Elway, we'll give you TWO draft picks for your rubbish)

or to our coaches...

fourth round -- OK Rex, that one is YOUR pick

fifth and sixth round -- Westy, those are YOUR picks

100% it is. The Giants, Packers, and Steelers also follow that model.

Hmmmm....

Good points. Later round draft picks build depth and there is always the chance of finding a "diamond in the rough".

Over the last 5 years, the Jets have had the fewest draft picks of any team in the NFL:

2012- 8
2011- 6
2010- 4
2009- 3
2008- 5

Exactly. And they were lucky to have the success they've had with those few picks.

The scouting for the Jets has been "not so good" in the last 4-5 years. They need to find a different process for that, and have many picks to add depth, and perhaps find a nice starter or two.

disagree about the scouting 0515

I think it was a problem strictly of a GM who had a lower than required regard for draft picks and was willing to give them away like trinkets to coach choices and for trade ups and trades for players like tebow when it wasn't necessary and actually hurt the team by diluting their draft every year

I think I was comparing it to the Mangini years, where hitting on draft picks was every year (except for Gholston).

We also didn't benefit from having a dysfunctional team the last couple of years. I'm sure that stunted a few rookies' (and one QB's) growth.

I'm ok with them passing on the QB's, and waiting until 2014 Draft to address it. I'd hate to see them draft one in the 2nd-3rd Round, just to see them pass on one in 2014 because they think they addressed it.

By Position, I wouldn't mind something like this:

1 OLB
2 RB
3 WR
4 OG
5 TE
6 OL
7 S
I agree with your list though if the right WR is there in 2 (as in DeAndre Hopkins) I would take Wr in 2 and Eb in 3.

That's fine.

Also, the Jets will be very tempted to take a QB in the top three rounds. The only way Idzy should is if he trades down a couple of times in the first few round, and accumulates a couple of more early picks.

I know. I don't care until all the guys we've drafted report to camp and start performing (or tanking). Until then, no one knows squat.

So, you're saying that you're a fan of early mock drafts?
