Exile is one of the greatest albums of all time.

Pretty hard to choose against that.

omitting all the live and greatest hits sets:

Blonde on Blonde
Tommy
Physical Graffiti
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
The River

the challenging:
English Settlement
Freak Out!

funny thing, I love the Stones and think Exile is their *worst* LP by far until the 1980s.
Never took a shine to it. Hated the cover too.
I think for me it's more of an atmosphere, setting a mood than a collection of solid songs.

And that's why no one likes you!

Seriously, you're stepping into Borgo territory with a blasphemous statement like that.

You might be the only person besides Billy Corgan who thinks so. As for Corgan, I don't think anyone is a bigger legend in his own mind than him. I listened to this guy sit and actually compare this album to the Wall, Quadrophenia, etc and say it would blow them all away. Unreal. This is one band I used to love till I heard him speak.

Yeah. Musicians are weird.

Doesn't change the fact that it was a good album.

My personal taste leans more towards pop, so I guess that's why it doesn't appeal to me as much. However, I loved the singles and Lps that preceded and succeeded Exile, Let It Bleed is like a big 45 with a bonus of a humorous sleeve that makes me laugh to this day.

I dont love everything put out by the "greats", does anybody? But if you love In Through The Out Door, that's great... For example, I think the VU, an otherwise outstanding group's 2nd LP is terrible and Quadrophenia is a leaden, dull work in its final form that should have been pared down to 1 LP. I'm much more impressed by The Who By Numbers! I prefer the Syd Barrett Floyd much more than post-Barrett noodlings. etc.

LMAO. Me and JSJ finally agree on something.

+1 to those mentioned...Quadrophenia, Exile, Yellow Brick Road, White album, Physical Graffiti...there are others that I simply have not heard so can't comment on.

Maybe not one of the best double albums of all time but I mention it for those it'll make smile...the Kinks "Everybody's in Show-Biz," the album that gave us Lola and Celluloid Heroes.

I think In through the out door is LZ's best album.

I loved your ELO out of the Blue selection for best double album, too. It is a great album. But the obvious choice here is The Wall. Hands down.

For any of us fans of The Who, an excellent documentary.

I assume you're joking, AFC. I don't recognize the "film" or soundtrack as having existed.

I'm somewhat embarrassed to admit it, but I'm serious. The soundtrack versions of "I'm Free", "Sensation" and "Eyesight to the Blind', for example, are, in my view, head and shoulders above their studio counterparts.

No disrespect, just incredulity.

I walked out of seeing the Tommy movie wanting to punch out Ken Russell (still do, so might dig him up to to accomplish this and clear my anger). Listening to Oliver Stone drone and Anne-Margret's infuriating vibrato warbling absolutely ruined those classic songs for this Who devotee.

For me, even though I idolize him, the making of that POS was a complete sellout buy Pete Townshend. There is a part of me which never forgave him.
