Interesting that Bart Scott is not in that list. I have heard there is a chance Scott will be back at a lower salary.

Brian Costello ‏@BrianCoz
Today's moves clear about $26 million in cap space.

Scott should have been cut before Pace.

I'm guessing there's still a chance that the Jets and Bart Scott reach an agreement. Both sides know the Jets will cut him if they can't find a deal.

His cap deal for 2013 is $8.7M, of that Scott will count $1.5M if cut. But they could work out an agreement where he gets $4-$6M over 2 years with $2.5M guaranteed (Just a wild guess).

Maybe Pace was unwilling to take as deep a cut as Scott.

What a waste, he doesn't have the speed to play in the NFL anymore, when Shane Vereen takes a basic swing pass to the house time to retire.

Bart Scott does nothing for the Jets at any price right now. These are not going to be the only cuts, so there is still a very good chance he will be cut at some point.

Teams need to be under the cap by March 12th, so not every cut needs to made now.

But but...ESPN told me we were in cap ROTFLAMO and couldn't clear significant space without cutting integral players. These are hardly integral players. What gives?

I don't totally that he does nothing. He's certainly not a starter anymore. But he will count for $1.5M against the cap this season, if the Jets sign him for a cheap enough deal, they may get him for the same price and not also have to pay $400,000 (or whatever the league minimum is) for an end of the bench guy. Anything less than $1.9M for Scott is worth it for 2013, even if the Jets have to guarantee a nominal cost like $500K for 2014.

Like you said, they can always cut him if they can't find a mutually agreeable deal.

You think Scott is going to play for less than 1.9 million this year? That is barely above vet minimum. Even at a salary of 1.9, his cap number is going to be 3.5 million. No way Scott plays for that money. He would ask for his release and get at least 3-4 million from another team.

They shouldn't even get to a cap figure at all with Scott. He should be cut because he doesn't have the athletic ability to play anymore. There should be no reneging with him at all.

yes they are barely under the cap....with not many more easy big $ cuts besides Scott. Plus they also need many starters/upgrades - if they can find a way to keep Scott at or below his dead $ number rather than have to replace him even with a vet min $. No one will sign Scott to more than the vet min...that is any team that has any game film of 2012.
